This does not have to be cut off. My son had full-on dreadlocks for two years, and over the course of several days and the use of copious amounts of olive oil, my wife was able to comb them out. Your knot isn't nearly as difficult as that. With a bit of patience and good oil, you should be able to carefully detangle it, first with fingers, then with a comb, starting at the tips and working towards the scalp. Good luck!
