God gave you a wonderful head of curly hair and he gave you the ability to grow that hair. So my advice is grow it proudly and ignore the naysayers. Google some of the rock stars who grew long curly hair.
So yes you should grow your hair long, enjoy it while you're alive to enjoy it and able to grow it.
