I think you might be taking it a bit too personally when someone suggests donating your hair. If it is a person from an organization collecting hair, they are simply inquiring and probably do so for men and women of acceptable hair length. A polite decline should send the message that you are not interested. I have had friends or coworkers suggest I donate my hair when I have mentioned going shorter or cutting a few inches. I take this as a compliment. My hair is long, straight, untreated, and richly colored. Whether I decide to donate or not is still my decision, but I never felt pressured or guilted into donating.
And while these organizations often get more hair than they can use or hair unsuitable for wigs, they can often re-sell this hair to makeup and paint brush manufacturers, or used by doll makers, for false eyelashes, or organic gardening mats which repel weeds.

: You misunderstand. You're free to do what you want with your hair. What I hate is people who try to guilt me into donating my hair which i'm still using and intend to use until the day I die..
