I was skeptical when Carol first mentioned Traction Alopecia is why my hair had gotten thin because I thought there was only 1 way that guys went bald and that was male pattern baldness. I thought also that I was doing everything right with ponytails-leaving it a bit loose and using elastics with no metal that were made for the hair. However reading what I guess you could call symptoms are things I experienced off and on for years:

-Headaches on the top back of the head
-Hair thinning in front of head so looks like receding hairline
-Hair actually getting shorter rather than longer

Good news is that this kind of baldness is reversible in early stages by just leaving the hair loose. It can be permanent if it lasts for a long time and since it effected me for 18 years I figured I'd be bald in the back but fortunately for me my hair had also gotten damaged and dried out from hairdryers and would break before the roots got pulled out.

So now I've left my hair down for 2 months and I've seen my receding hairline and hair in the back of my head growing again. I've also been trying to get all the needed hair nutrients with food and filling in any gaps there by taking hair vitamins.

Hopefully this helps somebody!

Marty
