: A lot depends on what your natural color is, and how much lighter you are going. Bleaching or dying hair significantly lighter than its normal shade, can damage hair. Hair can become brittle and break. If you are doing subtle highlights only a few shades lighter than your natural color, you should be okay.

: After bleaching or lightening, to restore moisture in the hair shaft, and repair any damage, consider using a hair masque. You can buy packets or use a recipe to make your own (Avocados are popular). This deep conditions the hair. I've highlighted for many, many years, and avoided damage by deep conditioning.

: As long as you are taking the necessary steps to keep your hair from becoming dry & brittle, you should be fine.
