Yes, this meeting on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean wouldn't have been possible without this website. I think it's easier for you to meet other members because most of them live in the USA, despite the fact that it's a large country.
The problem comes from social networks, which have diverted traffic from websites. Social networks were fun at the beginning, but now they're controlled by algorithms that decide for you what you see, and they collect your personal data. Moreover, I don't find that there is a friendly atmosphere in them, apart from some private Facebook groups. And yes, there are many groups dedicated to long haired men, and they are very active.
I've also made a website dedicated to French long haired men (https://lesgarschevelus.fr) but it doesn't get many visits. I got the visit of two members who have posted photos of their really long hair.
I've been on the Internet since September 1999, back when my hair was in the awkward stage.
By this time, we had slow and expensive dial-up internet access and these AOL CDs everywhere (I don't know for the USA, but it was the case in France). Everyone who had used the Internet by this time won't never forget the sound of the modem establishing a connection.
The Internet was slow, but it was the good old days when the Internet didn't belong to a few firms like now and wasn't controlled by algorithms. You had websites, forums, and blogs that belong to someone who is human and with whom you could discuss if you got into trouble. Not like today, when it's an AI that answers to you.
That's why today I prefer going to a website instead of a social network. And I prefer to post on my personal blog, https://www.jesus-forain.fr (written in French, but you have translation tools in your browser).
