Well, I finally trimmed my hair. I did it myself using Feye's self trimming method. I think I've been pretty lucky up to this point with splits. I would check every once in a while, find a few, and take care of them. But in the last month or two, I started to see lots of them and I knew something had to be done. Also, there was a section of hair in the back that was a bit longer than the rest. So one morning last week, I got the scissors out and did the deed. Actually, with my hair at my current length, it was easy. I think if it was any shorter, it would not have come out as good. I hope it came out well, it sure does feel good to comb through.
Well here is a before and after picture:
And here is a picture showing that "extra" length in the back:
If you consider that back section, I may have cut 3 to 4 inches, but really, mostly it was just an inch or so, over all.
Don't worry, I'm not in a trim happy mode. This was my first trim with long hair, ever! (and that's counting my first go around with long hair in the 90's) So the next time will probably be in 6 months, and then only a dusting.
As always comments are welcome.
Bruce
Looks like it came out well; I'm needing to do the exact same thing. Ends do look much better!
Thanks George! It was pretty easy except I had to get used to the idea of cutting hair while looking in the mirror. My mind doesn't work in reverse so well!
Bruce
Hi Bruce,
I am very impressed with how your trim came out. Your ends look so thick, healthy, and even, and it now appears that you have that one length look that most of us longhairs really want. I have been thinking that my ends are not in the best of shape either, and tangle easily, especially after sleeping, but the thought of cutting my own hair seems a bit scary. I was wondering if you find that your hair is less tangled in the morning?
Also, I was wondering if you have established any final goal, e.g. waist length? You should be able to grow it that long if you wish, since your hair appears to grow fast and your ends are nice and thick.
Keep it growing,
David
Thanks for your kind remarks David! The thought of cutting my own hair scared me too, but the thought of anyone else doing it was even scarier. It was worth it, it's easier to comb through and yes it doesn't tangle as much in the morning.
I haven't considered how long I may push it my length, but I think it won't be much more than mid-back. My wife still doesn't get into the longhair concept and as it is, she considers what I already have to be extreme. So in the interest of keeping peace, I'll not push it too much. But maybe longer lengths may just sneak up on (or down) on me.
Keep on growin'
Bruce
Hello Bruce ! Congratulation for the trim ! It seems that you did a good job !
Vivien
Thanks Vivien, I appreciate it!
Bruce
It's almost blunt... very beautyfull ends and very pretty hair!
Congratulations! It's getting long ^^
Thank you for your nice comments João! I hope classes are going smoothly for you.
Take care,
Bruce
That turned out really well Btuce (and your hair is looking great in general). I'm probably going to take a stab at cutting my own hair sometime since the thought of putting it in someone else's hands is terrifying. You confirmed my suspicions, though, that it should be longer than it is now to have good results.
Mouse
Thank you Mouse! Yes I agree I didn't want to trust anyone! Ask for an inch and you'll get "you really should..." and next thing you've lost three inches. I actually cut mostly an inch, except where it was unevenly long in the back. That was about three.
I think the wavier your hair the harder it may be if not long enough. Maybe if your hair is damp it would be easier. I don't know for sure but I know at the hair salons, they'll cut directly after washing, then dry.
Well, keep on growin'
Bruce
I'm really impressed by both your hair and how well the trim turned out. The blunt feeling of freshly cut ends is the best.
You've got some great length now and it looks to be in fabulous condition.
Thank you Jason! I'm equally impressed by the braids you and Franny have been sportin' lately. And yes when I first ran a comb through, the feeling was sensational!
Bruce
That looks really well done. The ends look much better.
Thank you Garth!
Bruce
Well, you did a good job. I have been cutting my own hair for over 10 years now. I found out that it really isn't all that hard to do. Congratulations on your first attempt.
Carol
Thanks Carol, wow, it really means alot coming from a pro like yourself! I was a little nervious at first back I just took a deep breath and took my time. The hardest part was coordinating the scissors in the reflection of the mirror. Once I wrapped my brain around it, the task was not that hard.
Bruce
looks great my friend! the trim made it look even better in my opinion keep up the great growth!
Thanks Mark! Keep on Growin'!!!
Bruce
it looks like you did a pretty good job Bruce; I don't see unevenness. I hope you notice a lot less tangles and knots. that was my experience.
