Well i did it.
I trimmed off about eight inches to even up the ends.
I got tired of how bad the ends looked so I chopped off about
eight inches. I hete to lose that much length but I also hated
the way the ends looked.
So now the hair is at nipple length, i'm wondering if I can get it
longer without damage. Using coooanut oil didn't seem to help the
ends. I'm at a loss as to what is causing the damage to ends.
Old age? (I'm 62 years old now.)
Hopefully this will be as short as it gets.
In this case, it sounds like "quality over quantity" was the way to go. Are there certain protective measures you are thinking of trying, as you let it grow longer again? Oil treatments will probably help, but do you have anything else in mind (physically restraining it/ tying it back when outdoors or active, leave-in conditioners, etc.)? Best of luck, and keep us posted!

I've tried using cocoanut oil on the ends, it didn't seem to help.I do physially restrain it (pony tail, braid, bun, pig tail) to keep it from getting damaged, all to no avail, it still got some damage. (I wonder if some of it is not damage as such but is more a case of some hair growing faster than others.
Sometimes we do what we have to do. I just did something
similar and now I have a pathetic little ponytail. But its all
even no splits so I don't plan to do any cutting for a long
time. As they say here, onward and downward.
OMG...Did you really need to cut that much hair?
To add to what others have written, I'd suggest you now go the a hair stylist that you have confidence in, every 6 months (so twice a year). Have him or her TRIM the ends, usually not more than half an inch each time. It should help in having your hair grow longer and stay healthier.
A.D.
Yeah the ends were that bad.
Don't have one. Had one in the 90s, that shop closed (it's now an H&R Block. Never could find out where that stylist went.
Hi,
I found my stylist by asking a guybI knew who had similar hair to mine. If you do not know a guy, you can ask a woman. Most women are glad to help.

Hi LHIA,
Perhaps you wear it down and loose most of the time? I do know that periodic trims on longer hair does the ends good and prevents split ends. We're talking 1/4 inch or so every so often. I wouldn't stop using coconut oil on it though. Unless for some reason you find it doesn't work well with your hair type. Please take care.

Hi.
I'm wondering if I wear my hair down too much?
I never trim the ends. The only trimming I do is when the ends get really bad. (Breakage)
I think i'm finding the coconut oil isn't helping.
Is there a limit to how often you should use conditioner?
I'm coming to the conclusion that much of the damage is occurring when I take a shower and don't wash my hair.
So now that i've trimmed off the 8 inches of hair and all the lengths even again i'm attempting to be very careful to avoid
damage.
I having my hair this short. (nipple length) But then at the age
of 62 i'm thankful that I have hair to enjoy.
This could be possible.
Probably would be a good idea to trim the ends every so often if you wear it down much of the time.
Some people find coconut oil doesn't agree with their hair. Or so I have read.
With hair your length I would think using conditioner every time you wash your hair with shampoo would be advisable. Of course, you should probably only apply it to the lower half of your hair. You have to find a conditioner which agrees with your hair type etc.
This is good.
I would definitely agree with this statement! Please keep it growing!
