Hey all, I've come to this forums as a last resort before giving up on growing my hair out and cutting it off. I've been growing it out for just over 6 months and it's gone terrible. As you can see in the picture above its a mop that I can't do anything with. If you have any advice at how I could try style it it would be appreciated. I have tried wearing a hat I bought but my hair is so thick it doesn't look good (I'm thinking about trying a different hat). Some other questions that I have are:
1. If I keep growing it will I eventually be able to style it like "Harry Styles" (Before he cut it)
2. Should I get it trimmed? (Havent cut it since I've been growing it out).
3. What products should I use and when? (Have been washing it every couple days, that's all)
All advice would be greatly appreciated and would help stop me wasting 6 months of growth by cutting it off.
Cheers in advance :)
Hi Skyro,
Welcome to the board! Your hair looks just fine to me. Harry Styles has hair which is quite curlier than yours. So it might be difficult to duplicate his hair texture and look. But if you just let your hair grow longer it will eventually fall gracefully around your face and look awesome. Six months is hardly a long time when it comes to growing hair. Don't give up yet!
You just have to experiment with different products and methods to find what works for you. But for now I would just let your hair grow and maybe use gel or a hat to make it look good to you(not anybody else!). Sometimes I think my hair looks unruly or messy. But when I look in the mirror it looks just fine. And my hair is not much longer than yours. You have excellent hair texture to grow long. Hope this helps1

It looks good as is, but you could try pulling your hair back like maybe after a shower so it dries in place with a hair part or something and putting in product as needed to keep it like that
Seems like your hair would be easier to handle if the front of it is pulled back away from your forehead so that it will grow longer and down towards your back instead of everything being forward and growing over your eyes and face
Hey Skyro,
Welcome to the MLHH!
Welcome to the tribe!
Bro, your hair looks great for six (6) months growth. You are in the "Awkward Stage" of hair growth. We've all experienced it. It's that time when your hair is just getting long enough to be recognized as "long" and it with the new length it just won't style the way it used to be able to be styled. It is part of the long haired journey. You said that you bought a hat and that you were wearing it. Some guys handle the "awkward" stage when they go out in public. Don't cut your hair! You've come this far and you are so close to realizing your dream of achieving "longhairdom". Think about all that you had to put up with start to grow your hair out. Don't abandon your quest now. You're too close.
I would recommend hair shampoo and conditioner which are enriched with biotin and which are sulfate-free.
Later long haired bro,
Raymond
P.S.: Keep us updated in regard to your progress.

Looks cool to me! I would love to have your hair. Maybe just
try different styles and products until it gets long enough
to tie back when you are having a bad hair day.
Welcome to the hyperboard Skyro!
Not much more I can add as the other comments are spot on.Your in the awkward stage of growing your hair out long which means it will look wild for the most part.As your hair gets longer the weight of the hair will settle it down.Possibly try brushing the hair back out of your face, then put in some gel to sort of hold it.Wearing a hat always worked for me should my hair look oily or messy on a given day.Wear a baseball cap as they are adjustable so if your hair is thick adjustability would compensate for it.Please don't give up and do keep us posted.Ask questions anytime as that's why we are here my friend.Cheers

Hey! Others have provided you answers to #1 and #2, so I'm going to try and tackle #3.
Your hair looks thick and straight-ish, so I think you can use literally any product and it will work well. Gel will hold it back, which is a great option when you're growing it out.
BUT I personally like STYLING CREAM, like Rusk Radical Hair Cream. It's supposed to be a thickening cream, but I think it provides really great hold (ie, keeps your hair in place), AND keeps your hair soft (unlike gel).
Apply a small amount to wet hair, then comb it back and let it air dry. After an hour, run your fingers through your hair to get rid of the "wet" look. Your hair will stay back, look good, and remain soft.
Wearing it back while its growing out will help you get through the awkward stage. Then when it's long enough you can just go natural.
Hope this helps.
