Ok I'm a longstanding member here, been on this forum since 2003. In 2014, I made the decision to stop posting here. Let me give you a little background to this. When I first grew out like hair it was a god send, I finally cared about my apperance and took great care to keep it looking nice.
Yet, as I grow older now, I'm 33. I'm feeling long hair is making me old and I no longer even take the time to brush it out everyday. The only thing that is making me hesitant, is I have no idea how to take care of short hair. Whats the best style for me, or how to ask the stylist to cut it. I'm basically trying what worked for me in my 20s.
I know of the 2 week rule. I last cut my hair in 2011 on a whim and regretted it.
Hey Kenneth,Happy Holidays for starters!I always enjoy seeing you as well as other longtime members showing up from time to time.It is nice to know that we aren't completely forgotten here especially when the board activity slows to a crawl.
I'm very saddened to read how you feel about your long hair my friend.I know we all go through fazes in life but at 33 you are still a young pup. However we all get older and wiser as I'm waaayyyyy past 33 but still enjoy having long hair to the point I made it more work having it since I went the henna route. In my opinion short hair is more work because it demands to be styled if you want it looking good.Long hair is simpler being all you need to do is brush it out regularly for the most part.If its straight long hair its even easier. With that in mind I would disagree with you if its just a maintenance issue. Now if you really don't like having long hair that's a different story but my feeling is that's not really how you feel. All I can say is live by the two week rule and think about the consequences of cutting it short.Hair cuts off in minutes but can take years to reach a majestic length again. Please, just enjoy the holidays and ponder your true feelings. Please do keep us posted as we do care :) Cheers and Merry Christmas.

A question, is it possible you're suffering from depression?
I would think short hair would make you look old.
take a look at some vintage high school year book photos of guys from the 1960s and tell me you don't think the short barber shop haircuts make them look older than they are.

I think long hair is more youthful.
anyone agree? disagree?
also, notice the hairstyles on the girls in the photos made them look like their Mothers. probably not a good look for a young lady to have imho unless their goal was to look 40.
long hair is more youthful imho regardless of gender.
Long hair is making me feel old, not that I looked old. As in it was a decision I made in 2003-2004. That was the year after high school, that's a lifetime away from my perspective.
Anyway I want to update, I started a meditation program and the urge to cut my hair for the moment has gone away. On the plus side, it has helped me deal with alcohol and substance issues as well.
What is wrong with feeling old? I'm 62 years old, i've had a lot of friends and relatives die in recent years. So my philosophy is feeling old is better than the alternative.
I graduated high school in 1973, so compared to me your very young.
Good luck in your struggles.
Hi Kenneth,
Well, based on the last photo you posted here of your hair, I would definitely not cut it! You have great looking hair and I don't understand really why you want to cut. But, only you can make that decision. And 33 is not old in my opinion. I'm 50 and feel like I'm much younger (at least in my mind:)). Hope you don't cut though! Take care of yourself please!
Ted
I would have guessed 35 before 50, however if you had a typical barber shop cut you might look 50, but I think long hair tends to make people look YOUNGER , not older.
Hi Josh,
Well, I believe you have just made a friend for life! I much appreciate your very kind words! I certainly don't feel 50! However, I must tell you that this photo was taken this evening. Today I went through my 4 hour dialysis session which is rough sometimes. I go 3 times per week for 4 hours per session. It makes most patients extremely tired. So, I feel pretty damn good that I look younger! And I'm with you! I definitely think long hair makes most people male and female , look younger! I just can't wait to get to at least waist length! What length is your hair?
Thanks again and please take care of yourself my friend!
Ted
top of my chest atm.
What length is your hair?
That's a great length! Hopefully you will grow it even longer. And yes, I will be keeping my hair longer! Merry Christmas to you as well!
Ted
Perhaps you feel old because you have long hair like us old farts!
And I was just thinking about something I have only noticed on TV in 2017. At least the media have started to represent long haired guys as being normal people in adverts on TV. Well, not really long hair, after all, actors never grow really long hair because they are always cutting it for the next part they are going to play.
Maybe in a few years they will start to cast long haired men as the leading man. After all, they've only had half a century to start doing that.
It's so weary never being able to identify with any characters in the media, or even the presenters.
Anyway, I digress. Keep up the good fight and keep that hair long!
