Hello,
Has anyone ever tried biotin for hair growth? Is it safe?
Darrin
Biotin is a water-soluble B vitamin. Soluble vitamins are perfectly safe to take, because your body will only use what it needs, the rest is excreted in urine. There isn't a lot of research out there showing any benefit to Biotin supplementation, Biotin is also readily available from a diet that includes grains, though whole grains are better, they have more Biotin. Other Biotin rich foods: eggs, liver, some legumes, fresh veggies & mushrooms. If you eat these food groups on a regular basis, you are likely getting all the Biotin you need.
You could try it and see if it makes difference. But if you aren't noticing any benefits, you can stop supplementing. Some people show improvement because they were Biotin deficient prior to supplementing.
I also take a 10,000 mcg Biotin pill daily, and have been for over 2 years now. It helps keep your hair, skin, and nails healthy. In fact, when I miss a day I get paranoid :)
Thanks everyone for your input.

10 milligrams per day for me. I have brittle fingernails and I think it helps.
