I'm still on my quest for terminal. My wife trimmed a little off today. My previous trim had been about 1.5 years ago so it had been a long time. I think it's still lengthening because it feels like my arms are having to now extend farther to finish my braid each morning.
I'm not overly thrilled with these photos but I don't have much time to dedicate to taking them anymore. We've been having wretched weather so it's been difficult to take proper outdoor photos.
For comparison, this is where I was last May:
I see some growth but it's a very slow process. The first three years or so of growing is so effortless to see regular progress. At my stage comparisons should only be made at maybe 9 months at the earliest.
Hi Jason,
Your growth and quest for terminal is going well. I plan on growing to terminal myself. I had a trim a month ago, and my stylist trimmed more than I wanted. I plan on going without a trim for at least a year.
Darrin
Hi Darrin,
Thanks. I'll be interested in following your journey to terminal. It's definitely a process that requires patience.
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason,
Your hair is looking awesome my friend! This is just the jolt of inspiration I needed to keep me going! I would love to have your hair with the nice waves especially at the ends! I am happy to hear you are noticing some growth even if it's not much! I have heard that the longer hair gets the more difficult it is to notice growth. But to be honest with you, I will be happy if I can just get my hair to your length! Please keep it growing!
I hope your job situation is still going good you and your family are doing well! As far as the wretched weather, you can keep that up there! Sorry, but I think you're talking about cold weather, which I can't handle! I think I see snow on the ground in the photo. Please stay well my friend!
Ted
Hi Ted,
Thanks for your thoughts. Its nice to see you back on the road to long hair and making great progress.
Yes, snow in April!
Ive been in my new job position about 1.5 years now and so far so good.
I miss following you on Facebook but its good to see you around here.
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thanks for the nice reply! I am very happy to hear the great job news! Hopefully it continues to be that way for a long time! Snow in April...I don't think so! Yes, my hair is frustrating me with its slow growth rate. But at least it hasn't fallen out! Just have to give it time I guess. My apologies about Facebook! Somebody pissed me off so I went through and deleted all accounts except my local friends to avoid further contact with that person. I did it that way because of the mutual friends thing. I don't remember if the person was a mutual friend of ours though. Nothing against you! I will have to add you as a friend once I find you on Facebook! I am happy to hear you miss following me on Facebook!
Please take care and have a wonderful week my friend!
Ted

Your hair is similar to mine, Jason. What I have on record shows a hair shaft diameter of 67 microns. (Mine averages 69 microns.) A good way to reduce damage is to use multiple hair elastics along the length of your hair at about 3 inch intervals. I use 11 of them. 6 or 7 will work for you. I use one OUCHLESS tie at the top and soft cloth like ties the rest of the way down. In addition, I take MSM (about 1/2 tsp per day), biotin 10 mg (10,000 mcg), saw palmetto, and Solaray hair blend (2 caps 3x per day.) All of the above help with hair growth. Hopefully, this will gain you some more length.
Scott
Hi Scott,
I do have extremely fine hair. I have a lot of it but that doesnt stop the wear and tear that afflicts those of us without coarse hair. Thanks for your suggestions. Im happy with where my hair is but definitely want to see just where terminal would be on me.
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason,
Always a pleasure to see a hair update from you :)I know what you mean about the weather as I had rain all day but looks like you were blessed with more snow :/ Certainly not the best conditions for outdoor hair photography.
I'm glad that you want to explore the terminal length aspect of longhair being that's what I'm doing.Honestly my last professional trim was way back in 2005 so imagine all the money I saved by not going to a salon! LOL.Of course you would think I would have "Hairfreaky"length hair by now but that's not the case. The length remains mid to lower back but I know its still growing.I can tell by the time frame between my henna treatments. The hair at the roots is clearly marked by the natural hair color that wasn't there since my last treatment so you can see the obvious new growth.Oh well guessing the hair at the other end is just breaking off to compensate.Regardless in your case your hair is fantastic!Thick all the way to the ends:)
Otherwise hoping all has been well with you in all aspecyts of life my friend.Cheers!
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Thanks! Yeah, terminal length is really the last thing for me to explore in my hair journey. I may not even keep it at that length but I feel its worth taking my journey to its fullest extent.
March was colder here than December, January and February. April snow and then rain for this week. East Coast weather at its best!
Regards,
Jason
Hi Jason,
It's always great to get an update from you, and personally, I think that these photos show your hair very well, and that your hair has good thickness to the ends. I am sure that you are good for at least a few more inches of length, although I understand that you are frustrated that your heir doesn't grow as quickly as you would like. Scott has some excellent suggestions.
I am equallly frustrated that my hair is not as long as I would like, but at least I still have good thickness, with minimal thinning. I am content with what I have, probably a but below mid back length, with a good hair line..
I totally agree that this recent weather has been infuriating, especially after a rather pleasant February. Our March weather has actually averaged out several degrees below our February average this year, and we have had numerous snow events. April doesn't look much better so far, with yet more snow today.
Thank you for sharing, and all the best to you and all your family.
David
Hi David,
Thanks! Im happy to hear that your hair continues to be in good health. Do you ever trim? Its possible that youve reached terminal but you definitely have excellent length to be proud of.
I saw that Halifax was in line for the snow that blessed us Friday and Saturday. Spring can take forever to bloom here in the northeast. Ive still be cycling even doing rain rides with temperatures not much above freezing but it sure isnt pleasant. Hopefully youll be able to get out golfing soon and Ill be able to take warm and dry rides again.
I hope everything else is going well for you and that youre continuing to enjoy retirement. Any more trips planned?
Best,
Jason
Hi Jason,
Thanks for the kind words. I admit that I don't try to do anything special as far as my hair goes. It's just a matter of washing and conditioning a couple of times a week. I haven't trimmed, except to "dust" it occasionally.
My apologies for not arranging a meet up with you when I visited Tammy again last September. We had a second tour of NYC, and stayed at a hotel close to Times Square. Although we no longer have a romantic relationship, we remain good friends, and enjoy these occasional bus tours.
We did get snow yesterday, but it mainly melted as it hit the ground, so it didn't accumulate. However, a more significant storm is in the offing for Wednesday. At least that one looks to be the last one for now. Spring has to get here eventually, I sure hope so.
Take care,
David
Jason
Always impressive....seems like forever since you and I started our longhair journey together.
Thanks for Sharing
Walter
Hi Walter,
Thanks. Yes, we've journeyed together here for many years. I know you've said in the past that your hair is very slow growing but I hope it's continued to gradually lengthen.
Are you staying in the USA for the time being or are you still going abroad on adventures? :)
Best,
Jason
"...I hope it's continued to gradually lengthen.."
Yes, it is still growing but as it is thin, thinning and white, it will never have the bulk that you and others have.
"...Are you staying in the USA for the time being or are you still going abroad on adventures?..."
Most of my work has been in the US (17 states in the past couple of years). Short time work in Trinidad and Brazil and a possible consulting position in Manitoba.
I am ever so grateful to be working exciting projects at my age....for that matter, I am grateful to have hair at my age ! Giggle
Thanks for asking, Jason
Hi, Jason
many thanks for the update.
Your hair looks great, would be interesting to see your braid.
I gather you wear the braid every day.
I face the same problem, the longer may hair gets, the more slowly it grows. After passing my shoulder blades it practically stops growing but I really would like to have it down to my waist.
Best wishes to you!
Markus
Hi Markus,
Thanks! Yes, I wear a braid everyday as my standard style. It prevents tangles and I much prefer it over a ponytail.
Everyone's terminal length is different. It's possible yours stops at just past your shoulder blades but it's likely you should be able to get more length.
Here is how my braid looks:
Jason
Awesome braid! Looks really great.
Hi(gh)!
Fantastic mane! May I re-process your images to make them look like on a Commodore 64 and on an Atari ST (all modes)?
See you in Khyberspace!
Yadgar
Thanks! Sure, you may modify them however you like.
And also re-publish here?

The first one (uppermost in your original posting)...

(how can I upload more than one picture with a single posting?)
Hey Jason,
In my opinion, what you view as a hair pic to not be "overly thrilled" about is a head of hair that makes a white-haired guy like me turn green with envy... it's all relative!
Right now I am typing on my work computer (my home computer died back in Oct. of last year -- and since I couldn't afford to repair it or buy a new one, I just went without... long story!)
I will post a general update at the top of this page soon; but just wanted to at least say hi here first!
Long Lox 4ever,
Ken in San Francisco
Hey Ken,
Thanks for the kind words! It's great to see you back here. I had actually asked Mark several months ago if he had had contact with you. Even at that point the length of your absence was unusual. I certainly understand life can get busy and hair has to take a back seat!
I'm happy that your partner's disability situation appears to be straightening out. That must have been a huge stress.
Of course, it's also good to know you're still longhaired and rocking that mane to your belt!
Best,
Jason
I absolutely see a difference, your hair is most definitely longer. And your ends look good, so you certainly can achieve more growth. Look at it this way, slow growth is better than no growth - at least you are still capable of adding length. I do believe you will reach your goal of terminal length.
Thanks. Patience is definitely the name of the game with going for terminal.
