I've been a fan of this board (and men's long hair in general) for quite some time. There has always been something majestic and powerful about a man with lovely flowing locks. I've always fantasized about having a long, dark and thick braid of hair that would flow down my back like a true warrior of olden time. I feel inspired by all the brave long haired men who frequent this website and wish to join your ranks. The only problem is that my hair is curly. I have what many call a "Jew-fro" and because of this my hair doesn't get "long". It just gets bigger. All my guy friends make fun of me for it calling me mean names like "curly boy", "Shirley Temple", and the worst of all "Pube Head". My question is can I still post my hair updates here even though I don't exactly fit the ideal Men's Long Hair Hyper Board image?

Hey Grant Sander!
Welcome to the tribe, bro!
You are one of us!
There is something majestic about having a large head of curls. In earlier centuries until recently it was a symbol of nobility and wealth for a man to have long hair. If you must have the time to care for it. You must live in a situation where you are not living on a dirt floor and with the animals so you are not getting lice in your hair. If you live in a colder clime then you are a warrior who can wear a helmet and you are not putting cold metal on a bald scalp.
It is a testament to your inner fortitude and self-confidence. Most of us have had to pay some price like this for our long hair. This also shows that you are a born log hair; you are growing your hair out because it is part of who you are. You are not growing out your hair because of style or because you want to be accepted by a certain group. If you were growing your hair out because of style or to be accepted by a certain group then you could cut your hair tomorrow if the style changes or the whims of the group changes. This is not you. Your hair is part of who you are, therefore, for you to cut it would be like cutting off part of yourself.
Celebrate your big curly mane and keep growing it out. Celebrate your hair each time you shake your head and feel your curly hair brushing across your shoulders and back.
I would add a word of practical consideration. When you are in a theater situation remember those who are sitting behind you and that their view might be hampered because of your hair. Consider sitting on the edge of the aisle. We long haired guys are chivalrous and courteous; we have class and dignity; we are majestic, sovereign, and regal.
Please keep growing out your hair and posting updates on this board, you are now part of us.
Your hair looks beautiful, gorgeous. Hold your head up with majestic dignity and stately bearing.
Welcome to the family, bro.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
God gave you a wonderful head of curly hair and he gave you the ability to grow that hair. So my advice is grow it proudly and ignore the naysayers. Google some of the rock stars who grew long curly hair.
So yes you should grow your hair long, enjoy it while you're alive to enjoy it and able to grow it.
They're just jealous of how great your hair looks and
how you have the courage to grow it.
Hi Grant Sander,
First of all, I think your hair is badass! You kind of remind me of Flea, the top notch bass player of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Second of all, I would recommend getting some friends that are girls. You can't call people friends if they talk down to you.
I think what you mean to say is that there is something majestic about a man with lovely STRAIGHT flowing locks. If everybody had straight hair we would look like clones or something. People pay good money to get there hair like yours. And it takes much more patience and good genes to grow a head of LONG CURLY hair! So I would say that you have great hair genes and also you are a handsome guy. I say go for it! This is, of course, if you truly want long hair. And, of course, you are allowed to post here! Can I please ask you what the ideal MLHH image looks like? Jesus, Mohammed? But in all seriousness, You have come to the right place for help with long hair! Please be well and don't be a stranger!
Ted

Here is a picture of Flea.

I think that the point of this board is being ourselves as independently minded human beings. In this context, that independence is expressed by refusing to go along with the twentieth-century "orthodoxy" of having regular haircuts and short hair.
Accordingly, we (or at least I) are not conformists in the type of hair that grows on our heads. My own hair is straight with slight waves and is at mid-back length, and unlikely to grow much more before attaining terminal length. I am thankful at 58 to have what I've got.
We all have different lifestyles, and we are all different in personality and physical characteristics. I sometimes discuss some of the more "philosophical" aspects of being non-conformist, being ourselves and true to ourselves. You can be yourself whether your hair is curly or straight, or even if you are bald and making the most of what you've got on the back of your head.
Just be yourself and have your hair just the way you want it. Perhaps with more length it might gain the weight needed to fall down your back, at least to some extent.
Welcome to MLHH and I look forward to discussion about whatever interests you, be it music, fixing up old cars, whatever. Sailing is my thing along with classical music, and I'm also an Anglican priest. We have someone here who is a Rabbi, and another who is a Roman Catholic priest. We all get on just fine. Welcome!

Hey
I am the Roman Catholic priest.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Raymond, I was being discreet like a good Brit. I appreciate your presence here, encouraging many people in their "journey", myself among them. That is part of our priestly ministry, being a "leaven in the bread".
Your long-haired bro too,
Anthony
Okay, since my two Christian colleagues came forward, I'll 'out' myself...I'm the resident Rabbi on MLHH!
Grant, look down the board at the various hair updates that people have posted, and you'll see a representation of a wide range of hair types. Personally, mine is 'wavy,' although after a washing (assuming I don't blow-dry) it will be 'curly' for a day or so...a look that I like!
As you can see from my screen name, I live in Israel. My daughter, who is probably close to you in age, lives in Colorado where she studies at CU-Boulder. She has certified-curly hair. She once said when she came to visit in Israel, that when she's here, she suddenly realizes that lots of other people have hair like hers. So, c'mon over! Your 'Jew-fro' will not stand out too much here!
Otherwise, keep 'er growing! We sometimes say around here, "onward and downward,' but in your case we'll look forward to 'onward and outward'!
All the best and Shanah Tovah,
Don
Nicely stated, Anthony! I would add that long hair is an attitude, a feeling that comes from within. You know you're a longhair even when you have short hair.
All are welcome Grant and we all look forward to your updates!
Grow, grow, grow!
Bruce

I know how you feel, I've felt the exactly same thing when I came along on this board but, don't worry about your hair, my hair is curly too as you can see and yes, you can achieve good lenghts with it if you have some patience
Take care!
Wow! I love your hair Guilherme! Damn that's some serious growth you have made! I am so happy to see this photo! You have definitely inspired me to keep growing man! Please don't ever cut that hair! Take care of yourself and I can't wait to see your next update!
Ted
Hi(gh)!
Lovely mane! May I Commodore64ize/AtariSTize your image and re-post it here?
See you in Khyberspace!
Yadgar
Sure, feel free to do anything.
Take care!

Hi(gh)!
O.k., here we go... at first a Commodore 64 version, using simple block graphics (40 by 25 tiles, scaled for better visibility). Because of the sides ratio, your image would only 40 by 23 tiles large, but as the C 64 can only display full-screen images, I had to add one additional line of black tiles on top and bottom respectively.

Hi(gh)!
Next is the same, but now with Floyd-Steinberg dithering...

Hi(gh)!
The third one uses the multicolor mode of the Commodore 64; like with blocks mode, the hard-wired 16 color palette is used, but with a restriction: in each 8 x 4 pixel tile only fours colors are allowed. The pixels are horizontally stretched, so the resolution is 160 by 200.

Hi(gh)!
Same like the third, now with Floyd-Steinberg dithering. As I not have programmed a routine to automatically check for correct color assignment in the tiles (but hope to do so the nearer future), I had to do this manually, which is quite time-consuming - it took me more than one hour.

Hi(gh)!
Next version is in the Atari ST monochrome mode; as the Atari ST comes with a hard-wired GUI interface, pictures need not to fit the 640 by 400 pixel screen, so there was no need to add missing lines.
See you in Khyberspace!

Hi(gh)!
Same like the fifth one, but now using Floyd-Steinberg dithering.

Hi(gh)!
This version is in the Atari ST 16-color mode; the full-screen resolution is 320 by 200 pixels, scaled to double size here. The Atari ST uses a 9-bit RGB palette, thus consisting of 512 colors. Each channel can have eight different intensities as it uses three bits, on the PC this equals the 8-bit values 0, 36, 72, 109, 145, 182, 218 and 255.
When converting 24-bit color into this depth, I first create a 16-color palette out the 16,777,216 colors a modern-day graphics card is able to display; when assigning the Atari ST colors afterwards, in many cases, two or even more 24-bit palette colors are converted to the same 9-bit RGB values, so de facto the resulting picture contains less than 16 colors. This is especially true for grayscale images; in 9-bit RGB of course there can only be 8 grayscales, and due to the closeness of the original colors it mostly even boils down to only 6 or 7 grayscales.
Towards the end of the 1980s, Atari improved the ST by giving it a more advanced 12-bit RGB palette (4,096 colors, similar to the Commodore Amiga) for more differentiated coloring. This "extended" ST was marketed as the Atari STE.

Hi(gh)!
Now the Atari ST's 4-color mode, with Floyd-Steinberg dithering... resolution is 640 by 200, so the pixels are stretched vertically.
See you in Khyberspace!

Hi(gh)!
Finally, the 4-color mode without dithering:
