Curious... How long would you define as long hair? Very long hair? Extremely long hair? Looking forward to your opinions.
When is your hair long? When people around you tell you that you need a haircut. (Parents, teachers, employers, relatives)
Mine is long then. Mine is 18 inches. My goal is about 30 inches, so in my mind I don't think of it as long. At least not long enough.
I would say long hair begins when people see that it is pointless for them to suggest your getting a haircut. The awkward stage is the worst because one looks like having neglected one's appearance for too long.
Apart from that. Long? Short? It's all relative and personal...

In high school they told us our hair had to be above the collar. To them, that was "long" hair. Any longer, they sent you home and wouldn't allow you back until you got a haircut. They also marked the days gone as "unexcused absences". One unexcused absence meant one day of detention. Too many of these and you got probation. Then suspension. Then expulsion.
By the way, 40 years later, they still have that rule on the books.
Hey Bob J,
About five (5) % of males have long hair.
About 2.5% of these males have "longish" hair where their hair is just touching their shoulders. About 2.5% of these males have "long" hair where their hair is longer than shoulder length.
Your long haired bro,

When your hair is longer than your shorts?
Been there, done that.
All of my cut off shorts are shorter than that,
my hair is longer than two feet.
During the 1980s my hair was knee length, way longer
than my shorts. But by then I was in college.
Hi LHIA,
I'm just curious why you don't let it grow to your knees again. You must have really good hair genes.

I was lot younger then. Now that i'm 63 the hair doesn't grow quit as long now. Not sure why but it is what it is.
Now that i'm 63 the length seems to be at nipple length. Anything longer seems to be especially susceptable to damage no matter how careful I am. The past several years i've ended up chopping off about 6-8 inches to clean up the ends. This year I skipped doing that but ends look like crap so i'm debating with myself as to whether I should leave the hair the way it is or to clean up the ends.
I'm wondering if I need to bite the bullet and admit that my hair should only be nipple length? I hate having the hair that short but I also hate the ends that look like crap.
I'm also wondering if i'm wearing my hair down too much now. Maybe I need to wear it in a pony tail/pig tail/braid/bun more often?
One thing i'm absolutely sure about, I won't be cutting it any shorter than nipple length.
As we get older does our hair lose it's strength? Does it become more brittle?
Hi LHIA,
Thanks for the reply! That's a bummer your hair won't grow that long anymore. I would just grow it as long as it will grow with nice thick ends. That's my plan for my hair. But I think wearing it down a lot does cause the ends to get ratty. And I also think that hair loses its elasticity when the strands turn gray and lose the color pigment.
But your hair looks good in your avatar photo. Its great to know you're steadfast in your decision about not cutting. Onward and downward!
Ted
I considered I was a long hair when my hair reached mid-back, not before!
