I'll be honest, I'm a chick.
But upon discovering this website from a youtube video - a windows pc destruction video I decided to watch at 4AM, I've never had a better laugh in my entire life.
Now, don't get me wrong, I find guys with long hair very attractive - if not more attractive than guys with short hair - but I just think it's hilarious that there is a somewhat active forum on it.
I just wanted to thank you all for giving me such a laugh.
That is awesome.
👍🏼
Hi, is it possible to get the link of this video? it would be interesting to find out how and why mlhh address landed on a pc destruction video !
Well, you're right about one thing: This IS the best website ever to exist. It's also the most generally cordial, polite, supportive, and warm-hearted online community I've ever experienced or been a part of. Glad we were able to brighten your day.

I concur Val! Very nice to see you come out of the woodwork! Hope you and your family are dong well!
Ted
We're all doing well, Ted... thanks for asking :)
I saw that you're back on the glorious road to longhairdom, also. Hope that's going well for you, and that this finds you happy and healthy!
Take care,
Val
Yes Val! I need to post a 6 month update here soon! I am indeed on my way to glory again! My health is holding up so far. Still going to dialysis 3 times a week. I have been on dialysis for almost 8 years now. Feeling great though and many people have no idea I'm on dialysis. Many thanks for your well wishes my friend!
Stay close, Ted
Glad to hear you're feeling well, and that your dialysis has been so effective at keeping you healthy! I look forward to that eventual update in which you tell us you've been fitted with a new kidney.
As far as hair growth goes, I'm about at the 6-months, myself. The last time I grew it anywhere beyond this point was in 2014, when I hit the one-year mark, but then cut it as a knee-jerk reaction to an unexpected job loss and subsequent search for new employment. Currently, I'm growing it out in solidarity with my youngest son, who is the only one of my 3 boys who ventured to cut his hair short, but almost immediately regretted it and vowed he'd never do so again. Now that I'm in my 40s and in a very secure professional situation, I'm very comfortable with just letting my hair keep growing, and will likely maintain it at mid- to low-back length, when all's said and done.

Hi Val,
Many thanks for the kidney transplant wishes! I would love for that to happen!
I am very happy to hear you're growing your hair out with your son! I know your hair would look awesome at mid-back length! I'm also very happy to hear your employment situation is secure now! If I remember correctly you are a nurse. Since I have been in my medical situation I have gained an appreciation for nurses and doctors. I truly believe you all are Angels here on Earth. Thanks for all you do!
Stay close, Ted
Yup, I'm an RN... I work full-time as a public health nurse for a county health department, and part-time as a floor nurse at a local nursing home. Never a dull moment! Thanks for your kind words, my friend.

Hi Val,
You, my friend, are a very special person! Since I was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2009 I have had many nurses. They have made my various surgeries and hospital stays much better. I bet you never have a dull moment! Please keep up your noble work!
Stay close, Ted
Much appreciated, Ted!

Thats great news that your life situation is such that it allows you to grow your hair unimpeded. My job situation is very tenuous both from how much Im willing to continue working in this environment and also the real possibility that the job will end whether I want it to or not. It will be interesting to see how entering the job market affects my hair length. Im sure providing for your family was first and center in your mind.
Thats interesting about how only one of your sons chose to try short hair and then immediately regretted it. Did he wait two weeks? We still ask our son from time to time if he still wants his hair long. The answer has always been in the affirmative but, of course, well accede to his wishes should that answer change. I suspect that hed have fairly quick regrets. The other day he remarked how thankful he is to have parents who give him this choice. That made me feel good to hear.

Yes, providing for my family was foremost on my mind, but in retrospect, I have to admit that cutting my hair at that time was more of a knee-jerk reaction than anything else, and probably completely unnecessary. I'm sorry that you're dealing with uncertainties regarding your own employment. You and I are both at a point in our lives and careers, where I believe our professional skills should stand on their own merits, and eclipse the superficial concerns of some potential employers.
My youngest son (who will be turning 6 in August) had been going through a period of intense fascination with various superheroes, most of whom were short-haired. He consistently stated his desire to get his hair cut short to resemble them for about a year. Once it was done, he enjoyed it for a few weeks before expressing his regret, and has since been resolute that he "will never get [his] hair cut short again." It was interesting to see his hair transform instantly from "curly blonde" to "thick brown." Kudos to you and your wife for giving your son the freedom to express himself authentically, as well.
Best,
Val
PICTURED, LEFT-TO-RIGHT: My son before his haircut, about two months afterwards, and about one month ago.

Thanks for relating the details. Its funny but my son would have a similar transformation. His hair used to be really blond but its been trimmed a number of times and the amount of blond is getting less and less with most of it near the ends. His front hair still is maintaining some blond but if he was to have it cut really short, most of the blond would be gone. Your son definitely looks like hes well on his way back to longer hair. Thats really cool that youre growing yours out with him!
I sometimes wonder whether my son is an innate longhair or whether his affinity towards it is solely based on imitating me. Hes been really enjoying the world of Middle Earth and one of the great things is that just about all the males have long hair with the exception of hobbits with their shaggy/longish hair. Ive pointed this out to him but he hasnt expressed much of an opinion. He has said point blank that he never wants to have short hair but if I had to guess, I can imagine a scenario where he would at least want to try it. I think that would quickly sort out what type of longhair he is.
The hair aspect is one of the factors that keeps me at my present job despite a free-fall in how appealing it is. The last four years have seen what once was just about a perfect job for me become barely tolerable. I dont relish the idea of looking for ANY new job given that Ive been at this one for 22 years but it would be particularly worrisome when hair length is factored in. But youre absolutely right, one would hope that our merits and experience would cause any employer to not focus on long hair.
Heres a recent photo showing that he still has a fair amount of blond.
Best,
Jason
I've wondered whether my two younger sons would have been so drawn to having long hair, if their older brother hadn't worn his long since he was 8-years-old. Honestly, I'd have to say it's my middle boy (age 10) who has remained the most unwavering about growing and keeping his hair long indefinitely. You and I are both lucky, inasmuch as our kids are so good-looking, they'll be fine no matter what they choose!
It's cool that you've exposed your son to Tolkien's world at a young age, and instilled a love of that genre in him from so early on. My kids have had, I think, similar exposure. There is a definite "viking" theme ever-present in our home.
Twenty-two years at your job is quite an accomplishment, especially in this day and age. You might be surprised at how much less of a factor hair length is for many employers seeking new talent now, compared to how things were in the 90s. I'm sure you could effect a perfectly professional appearance by putting it up a braid, or your signature half-tail.

3 months ain't even worth an update, things are just getting 'bushy'..
