No, not goth, Growth!
Hey all, seeing as MarkS has come back to metalize this board, I thought I might as well join in.
I was an old time hair farmer on these here parts many years ago, went through a short period (hair not height, I'm 6' 4")!! and now I'm ready to return to my natural roots (albeit a little more grey) and grow my mop long again. Hopefully it will be as messy, chaotic as ever, it will certainly be interesting to see the results.
Here's a pic of where I am right now - from last cut Oct 2107, growing out pretty well I think.
I lurk but don't post, but thats gonna change :)
Good to be back, cheers chaps ;)
Dave
Hey Dave! Its great to see you back here and ready to being a new journey to long hair. How has the cycling been going?
Thanks Jason, good to see your mane is as awesome as ever. Cycling going well, still really enjoying it, but due to back problems the last 7 years I have to take it steady and warm up slowly otherwise I'm in pain for a few days. Are you getting out much?
cheers Dave
Im sorry to hear of your back issues. Its something that Ive also had problems with for much of my life. Im happy to say that Ive been free of back problems for the last couple of years. The only thing Ive done differently is that I work my core a ton. Its possible that is providing more support for my back. I get injured far less than I used to in general. I think its a combination of my body finally toughening up and also just listening to it better.
I hope youre able to find some answers soon. Im glad that youre still able to participate by allowing yourself more warm-up time.
Cycling continues to be a passion of mine. I did around 6800 and 6300 miles respectively for the last two years. My favorite way to use my fitness is to do rides in the mountains.
Im pretty much in a holding pattern with my hair. I keep it around mid-back length. Anything longer than that and the ends get ratty. My hair is fine in texture and I think the outdoor cycling really does a number on it. I cant complain. I enjoy the hair I have and am content just being a longhair.
Jason
Sounds like you have the hair/cycling balance sorted Jason. You're doing some good mileage :)
With regards to core, I have to agree mine is way too weak, but I have trouble working up to a decent core fitness before my back gives out again, then I'm back to the start again. I could really do with some professional help with a fitness routine but it's so expensive. I would be really interested if you have any helpful links. My problem is I feel a bit better then dive in with two feet!
You look physically strong as in your family pics post (sorry I couldn't reply but I am only allowed two posts with the screening). I wanted to reply to Anthony to but couldn't.
Anyway, onwards and upwards my friend :)
Dave
Two words, Planet Fitness. $10 a month and they have a fitness trainer at each club.
Thankyou for the tip, although I'm in the UK, maybe there's something here that offer a similar type of thing.
cheers
Thanks!
I can totally relate to wanting to jump in head first when you're feeling well. I've had a history of overdoing things myself. It's hard but I've tried to ease more into new routines especially when it comes to strength training.
I've done crunches for a long time and they've definitely helped build my core but I've found planks to be the huge boost I needed. I lean on my elbows and then alternate raising one foot at a time until I finally can't hold it any longer. The irony is that working the core can throw out your back (I've done it) but if you can get past that point, the strong core will very much help your back.
I sometimes have been getting that posting limit notice myself even when entering my email address for my avatar to show up. That should prevent it from happening so I'm not sure what's going on technically. If you hit 'back' and then try again, it often works to place the post even though you got that message the first time.
Wow ! What a treat to see your post !!
I can't wait to see "mature" gray, salt & pepper coloring on your unique mop !

Ha Thanks Walter, hope you're well sir :)
Great to see another regular posting again.
Always loved your unique hairstyle, looking forward to your updates.
Ive been through a shorthaired period myself as well, but Im very happy I decided to grow it back :)
Thanks Vincent
You always remind me of Mikael Akerfelt, which is no bad thing :)
Yes my hair is very similair, when I have my goattee and mustasche we look very much alike. Love Opeth saw them live a couple of times but prefer to listen to them at home. I like the older albums, the new ones are not heavy enough.
This reminds me of when I took a selfie of myself in my boat in early 2014 and realised that I had not cut my hair for several months (since 2013). I simply didn't cut it again and I haven't looked back since then. It's now mid-back 5 years later, and I doubt that I will get much more. It's not bad for my age (58).
Your hair is amazing Anthony, I'm just 52 so hopefully time is on my side :)
Nuttidave! It's great to see more of the 'old guard' returning to the MLHH... enough to get me posting again :). Looking forward to seeing your mane's return to glory!

Hey Dave it's awesome to see you posting again my metal brother! I always thought you had bad ass hair dude so you'll be back to longhairdom in no time. Hope you've been doing good bro. \m/ Look forward to your future updates!
Good to see you Dave! Happy hair cultivating!
Bruce
Welcome back! (From random old timer that hasn't even been lurking for a couple of years now)

Hi Dave,
Oh how I remember your mane! I can't wait to see your hair in its former glory! But my gosh that's all the growth you've gotten from Oct 2107?:) Just kidding! I miss your posts as well! Please visit more often from now on! Good to see you back! Please stay well my friend!
Ted
I've missed seeing you & your nutty mane. Looking forward to seeing it's return, even if it's greyer. You always had such a headbanging mop.
