Hi everybody,
I hope you all are doing well! I cut my hair back in October of 2017. I was at about 2 years or so. Not sure what the heck I was thinking! Needless to say, I am back on the journey now. I don't think I will be happy with my hair until at least the 2 year mark. Still trying to grow out the layers of the old haircut. I'm sure it will look much better when it's all one length. Here is the back view.
Looking good! May you have the determination to reach your hair farming goals even through the roughest of times.
Be well, friend.
Hi Daniel,
My apologies for late reply! Today I had dialysis for 4 hours and it kicks my butt. Your kind words are very much appreciated! I am going through some rough times since I'm getting divorced after 16 years. Needless to say, I have always loved your awesome hair! So happy to see you post again! I hope you're doing great and feeling well!
Stay close, Ted
I think I'm back into a routine where I can enjoy this great site on a regular basis again. Thanks for your compliment on my hair. Still looks the same, only a few more grays moving in. Sorry about the divorce and the dialysis, rough times indeed. I'm feeling well enough most days, but my back gives me trouble frequently. I have scoliosis caused by a hip deformity. I'm still too young for replacement parts. I'm also still too stubborn to let others see that I have my bad days. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Very nice to hear you can visit the site more often. I do understand your being stubborn. I can be the same way. I have heard that it's just not the same when replacement parts are put in. I appreciate the thoughts and prayers and I will do the same for you. Thank goodness my wife and I are being civil about things. Dialysis can be a force to be reckoned with I must say. Please stay well.

"I have heard that it's just not the same when replacement parts are put in."
In my case, that's a good thing! Top specialist in my state said to me, "I'm surprised it has lasted you this long, but we're not going to do anything yet". Thanks, doc. Maybe by the time I am old enough, my hair will be long enough to cover the scar.
Daniel
Yes, I agree! Let's hope that wonderful mane of yours gets longer without having a scar to cover up! Please be well my friend!

Ted,
Your hair is looking good! Have you determined a hair length goal?
Darrin
Hi Darrin,
My apologies for the delayed reply! My dialysis kicks my butt since it is 4 hours per session. I really appreciate your very kind words even though there's not much to look at yet! My first goal is to where my hair falls nicely across my shoulders. My ultimate goal would be about classic length at least. I don't really know what to expect as far as how wavy or straight it will be though. I would like to have waves. But I think it will be straighter than I want it to be. But I will take what I can get!
I hope you're doing well and feeling great!

Hi Ted,
All is well thanks! I am glad you're doing ok and I have a cousin on dialysis. It seems like it would be draining. You have good hair goals. I am finding my preference to be between mid to lower back. Good luck in your journey.
Darrin

Hi Ted, we have two similar paths, I'm approaching the 4 month mark after cutting 2 years growth off just before xmas. Hope you are doing well.

Another attempt :-)
Hi El Nico,
I apologize for my delayed reply! I had 4 hours of dialysis today and it wiped me out! Well, we may have similar paths, but I love the color of your hair! The first time I cut my hair I was around the 2 year mark as well. I have seen many people cut their hair at or past the 2 year mark. I don't understand why we want to cut our hair when it's looking good! It would make more sense to cut it in the awkward stage!
Your hair is looking great for only 4 months! I can't remember if you posted a photo of your long hair. Is yours straight or wavy? By the way, I love your username since I am a Nico Mcbrain fan. Hope you're doing well and feeling great my friend!

Ah yes! You have wonderful hair texture for growing long! I can't wait to see it when you grow it out! How long do you want to grow it? Thanks for finding that photo!

I'd say just below shoulder length. Should be nearly there in early 2020:-)
Still can't believe I actually cut it all off..
What made you cut it Ted?!
Ha! I thought I wanted that "clean-cut" look! Oh well, live and learn I guess!
Hi Ted,
I was sorry to hear you had decided to cut your hair back then but what happened happened and now you can look ahead to the future.Thankfully hair grows back but as you know ever soooo slowly.I assumed you did follow the two week rule back then which would mean you gave the cut serious thought.Regardless your not the only one who has done this and later regretted it.Keep growing, update us periodically, and keep the faith my friend.Cheers

Hi Mark,
I do apologize for the late reply! My dialysis treatment today really did me in! When I cut my hair it didn't bother me until I saw another guy with long hair. Then I started having second thoughts. I even told him that I had just cut mine. It's just a bummer that hair takes so much longer to grow! I still plan to grow it to a length where I can cut some to donate and still have below shoulder length hair. Of course, I will only donate to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
I will probably post another update at 1 year. By that time I should have something more respectable to see! My avatar photo I believe is around 2 years. I am trying to keep the faith considering everything. Sometimes it's difficult. Hope you're feeling well and doing great my friend!

Hi Ted,
No problem about when you get the chance to make a reply as I totally understand.Interesting about seeing another longhaired guy was what triggered your regret of cutting.Did you follow the two week rule we promote here for such actions? You know as part of that rule if anytime during that two weeks you have second thoughts that resets the clock again.Well you know the deal about regrowing so that will be no surprise. As for the hair donation I will never, never, never, ever understand the value in doing that.I know people do it but to me it makes no sense or has any real value but I suppose people have their reasons.Other than that rant the main thing is your at peace with how you want to deal with your hair.I understand you've had some difficult times so you need to deal with those in your own way too.Always great seeing you on the board and giving input my friend. As always keep the faith.Cheers
Mârk
Hi Mark,
Unfortunately I did not follow the 2 week rule. Probably would have been a good idea! As far as the hair donation, I plan to grow to a length longer than I want to maintain before I cut. The donation requires 8 inches. But I plan to have long hair after I make the donation cut. I won't cut until I get to at least belt length if I can grow it that long. Yes, still dealing with my issues and getting through them slowly but surely. I do really appreciate your very kind comments! I love this board! I just wish we had more activity! Hope you have a wonderful weekend my friend!

Looking good Ted. Keep going. Lance
Hi Lance,
My apologies for the delayed response! I had dialysis today for 4 hours and it pretty much wipes me out. Thanks so much for your very kind comments! Of course, I just love your hair! You have the color and the awesome curls my gosh! I love the photos you post of your property since I grew up in Northern California. I hope you're feeling great and doing well my friend!

Ted,
The important thing is that you're on your way back.
Keep it growing; before you know it you will be back at the two(2) year mark. Once you've reached this milestone then keep it growing.
Your long haired bro,
Raymond
Hi Raymond,
You are right! I have to start somewhere! The 2 year mark seems to be a good milestone to go for. I just want my hair to be able to fly in the wind and swish around when I walk. Hope you're feeling great and doing well my friend!

Great to see you back on the path to longhairdom, Ted! I'm at just about the 6-month point, myself. I'll see you on the trail, my friend!
Best,
Val
Hi Val,
Yes! Thanks for the very cool pic! You are looking great at the 6 month mark my friend! I do believe you have ideal hair type to grow long. You will be the coolest nurse when you grow your hair long! I hope you all are doing well and feeling great!
Thanks for your very kind words!

Hi Ted.
Don't know why you cut your hair AGAIN last October... But please promise me that next time you think of cutting them again, you will make sure to contact me....so that I can make you change your mind! After all these years, your goal should be to "catch" my length! Please keep healthy!
A.D.
Hi A.D.,
I'm so sorry for such a late reply! Thanks so much for your well wishes! Yes you can be assured I will not be cutting my hair again anytime soon! I will contact you before I cut! And I also will look at this photo! Wow! Your hair is awesome my friend! If I could get to your length that would be great! But I don't think my hair would have the fullness that yours does! My hair tends to be thin and lifeless the longer it gets. Trying my best to stay healthy! And you please be well my friend!

I really need to check in here more, I'm missing all the reunions of the old-timers.
Well, Ted, you are certainly inching your way back to your former length. Keep it going! I perused back through older posts, saw where you mentioned 8 years of dialysis. That's a lot of dialysis treatments, since you go 3 times a week. It's enabled you to live a somewhat normal life - if you consider being tethered to a machine for several hours of the day, several days out of the week 'normal'. But you had 8 years you wouldn't have without dialysis. Or a transplant, which are hard to get. Also saw you asking about my avatar, yes it's recent. Really needed a new one.
As you know, last year was my post-detox off opiate pain meds year. Unfortunately, this year is my detox off of proton-pump inhibitors (PPI's). Should never have been put on this stupid med, I had no medical need for it. But I was on NSAIDS's, and the manufacturer pushed using PPI's as a prophylactic to protect against ulcers from NSAID use. I have long ago stopped NSAID use, but got horrible acid reflux whenever I tried stopping this PPI. Fast forward to my learning that stopping PPI's causes Rebound Acid Hypersecretion, you are literally dependent/addicted to this stuff. It makes me mad, especially because the maker of the one I was put on, was sued by the FDA and heavily fined (5 million $$$'s) last year, for pushing unapproved off-label use. What was one of those unapproved off0-label uses? Why the reason I was prescribed it. They lied to my doctor, to many doctors, to push their poison for profit. I am furious. And absolutely miserable trying to wean myself off this poison. Lawyers are already circling, possible class-action - have talked to a few.
I've dealt with constant headaches, lightheadedness & dizziness. Disrupted sleep, acid reflux cough, etc, etc, etc. I've spent several hundred $$$'s on the supplements and alternate meds I need to detox off of a med I never needed! I've found literally dozens of people posting on health boards about trying to get off PPI's. Mostly because off fears over side effects such as kidney failure, heart attacks, brain damage, etc. Some are physically dependent, like me, and have been able to wean themselves off gradually. Others were popping PPI's in high doses, and now found they can't reduce the amount, let alone stop, because they are addicted. People taking 4 times the amount I was.
I have cut my dose in half, and gradually am feeling better. And from now on, I am not taking anything that is not medically necessary. I don't care why a doctor thinks I should be on it. This whole mess has kept me away from so much, and affected my quality of life. Thought I was over this the end of last year, after getting through the post opiate PAWS. So, yeah, it kept me away from here. And it could take another 6 months or more to get off this poison. I never had acid reflux anything, until I tried to stop the PPI. I'm determined to get off this stuff this year.
Keep that hair growing & flowing! Before you know it, it'll be long enough to tail, braid & bun it.
Hi Carol,
Wow! What a lengthy and thoughtful post! I would agree you need to check in more often also! But I'm glad I made you come out of the woodwork! Yes, I will get back to my former glory! It just seems like my hair is growing slower than it has in the past. As long as it keeps growing I'll be happy. I am thankful for dialysis even though it can be rough at times. August 2018 I will have been on dialysis for 8 years. The docs took me off the transplant list because of my weak heart. I am working on getting back on the list now though. My heart has miraculously improved greatly and I thank the Good Lord above for that. I'm convinced he has kept me going for a reason!
I am dismayed to read of your fight with the meds! Sometimes I think docs throw a med at an issue without really trying to figure things out. And the patient ends up hurting worse for it. I sure hope you can get some sort of compensation for your distress! It is very good to know you are reducing the dose and only taking meds you know are absolutely necessary. Unfortunately the companies are more interested in profit than anything. I will be keeping you in my prayers for a successful detox of your body! But you look fantastic in your avatar photo! As a dialysis patient, I understand what quality of life means. We all deserve quality of life! May you get it and keep it my friend!
Thanks again for the reply! Please stay well my friend and never ever give up!

good job
Hi jojo,
Thanks so much for your kind comment!I will be back! Please stay well!
Ted
Keep up the good work!
And you are right from 2 years and onward its really long but its possible to be happy even During the growing fase.
Vincent
Hi Vincent,
Thanks so much for your kind words! I just saw this post of yours here! I am trying very hard to be patient through the growing stages! It is fun though seeing the funny things my hair is doing along the way. I am growing it until I can cut 10 inches off to donate and still have hair to my middle back. So I have a long way to go! I am not going back to short hair again. But I want to help ladies with cancer by donating only to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
I really appreciate your reply! Please take care of yourself and I look forward to your future updates!
