I read yesterday that hair scalp pores can get clogged with coconut oil. I have a bald spot on the top back part of my scalp that I'm hoping is not genetic balding...how would I GENTLY unclog hair pores without messing up the surrounding hair? Baking soda??

I guess shampoo is supposed to do that without the help of anything else??

Try a clarifying shampoo, which is designed to remove buildup and/or excess hair product from the scalp and hair. Massage into the scalp, rinse, and be generous with conditioner. Follow Up with a leave-in conditioner, because while clarifying shampoos are effective, they are also somewhat harsh. Don't use it too frequently, only when you see a need to.
