My band from the 80s was Metallica. They were the best longhair band around I thought. James Hetfield (first on left in picture) really looked cool!! Not so now-why did they cut their hair??

Interesting-I'm not the only one that noticed years ago. James looks like a little boy now-guess that's why he had to get all those tattoos!
I cut my hair back in the late 90s after 8 years of growing it and had many regrets. I missed not being able to put my hair in a ponytail the most and grew it long again within a couple years and vowed I would never do that again and haven't.

Hi Marty,
I still think it had to do something with them trying to conform to the commercial bullcrap. At least bassist Robert Trujillo still has long hair. But I think when Dave Mustaine left and Cliff Burton died were the saddest days in Metallica's history. But at least they're still together.

I have to agree,after Cliff Burton died Metallica went down hill in my opinion.Master Of Puppets was their last decent album as from that point forward I never liked what they did.True its commendable they are still together as a band but they are a shell of their former greatness.Cheers

I agree with you! I think they have tried to go along with the record company's demands and it shows in their new stuff. It's a shame.
