Hi all,
Here is something I came across today. Good on this boy and his mom to do this for charity. I'm proud of him. This made my day! I sure hope he grows his wonderful hair again though!

Hey Ted,
Not to throw cold water on your topic but I've always despised Locks Of Love and the act of donating ones hair for wigs.In my view it's one of those "feel good" gestures that really accomplish nothing. If you really want to donate for the greater good then be an organ donar.Wigs can be made with synthetic hair which looks just as good as the real thing.Cheers

Hi Mark,
I completely understand your position. But this is a little kid who did this on his own. Also, the article says he donated it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths, which is much better than LOL. LOL charges people for wigs, but Pantene does not. This is another reason why I posted this. I despise LOL also. As a kidney dialysis patient I totally agree with your statement about organ donation! I have been waiting 7 years for a kidney transplant.

This is not true, a synthetic wig will never look as good as a wig made from real hair. Plus, a human hair wig can be styled, washed, have heat treatments applied, colored, or permed ... all of which is much trickier with synthetic wigs.
Hi Cameron,
This is interesting information that I was not aware of. Thanks for posting.

Hi Cameron,
Granted synthetic hair woun't be the same as real hair but like anything technology has gotten better with a lot of man made materials.I cannot confirm if that is true with hair.My beef though is with the harvesting of men's longhair by groups such as Locks Of Love.It totally goes against our mission here being we are promoting longhair on men,not hair farming and harvesting. As you know it takes so long to grow out a long mane but seconds to chop it off.I stand by my anti hair donating stance.Cheers

I hate these hair donation people,
I deeply resent folks who try to guilt me into donating my hair.
(It's all grey now so they would not accept it, it would end up
going in the trash anyways.)
Besides these places need money more than they need hair.
How to respond to those who wnat you to donate your hairWell, as a man who wants to grow his hair to donate it, I'm sad you would hate me. You know, hate is a strong word. I am going to grow my hair to a length to where when I donate some I will still have hair below my shoulders. So I will still have long hair. I think that's different than people who grow it and then go back to short hair.
And as far as gray hair goes, Pantene will accept gray hair. And Pantene does not charge for their wigs. And I doubt they throw much hair in the trash.
You are probably right about them needing money though. Thank the Lord we live in the U.S. where we are free to make decisions. And I think there just isn't enough charity going on either.
Ted
You misunderstand. You're free to do what you want with your hair. What I hate is people who try to guilt me into donating my hair which i'm still using and intend to use until the day I die..
Okay. Thanks for the clarification. I plan to grow my hair long enough to donate some and still have hair well below my shoulders.
I think you might be taking it a bit too personally when someone suggests donating your hair. If it is a person from an organization collecting hair, they are simply inquiring and probably do so for men and women of acceptable hair length. A polite decline should send the message that you are not interested. I have had friends or coworkers suggest I donate my hair when I have mentioned going shorter or cutting a few inches. I take this as a compliment. My hair is long, straight, untreated, and richly colored. Whether I decide to donate or not is still my decision, but I never felt pressured or guilted into donating.
And while these organizations often get more hair than they can use or hair unsuitable for wigs, they can often re-sell this hair to makeup and paint brush manufacturers, or used by doll makers, for false eyelashes, or organic gardening mats which repel weeds.
