I would mention that our civil war group had out National
Encampment this past weekend and we had more guys with long
hair. In past years we had me and two other guys with long
hair. Now we have about seven. We'll see if the trend continues in the coming years.
I would also mention that my hair is still longer than all the women in the Ladies Auxiliary.
Maybe a group photo is in order at this time with so many longhairs :) Cheers

I agree Mark! As they say on the internet, "pictures or it didn't happen." I would love to see a photo of those long haired guys.
Ted
I also don't know them well enough to ask. Some are slso officers in the organization.
It was worth a try.
In this day and age being photographed or recorded is life in the 21st century. We are not in Civil War times anymore ;) Cheers

But when we are in uniform in ceremonies we're portraying the 1862-1865 time period in the US of A. (The civil war) When your'e doing a GAR ceremony it doesn't look good to the public for me to pull out a cell phone and take a selfie. (They didn't have cell phones back then and cameras were in their infancy.)
So we rely on the press and spectators to take photos.
The uniforms we wear are wool which is what they were made of at the time.

if i'm doing this right, here is a photo from one of our ceremonies.
This is a very nice picture. Thanks for posting!
Ted
Does your group have a website?
Yes
SuVCWCorrected website
SUVCWThanks much! This is very cool.
Very interesting.
I like historical reenactment related stuff
Actually we're not re-enactors. We're an honorary organization.
" Organized in 1881 and chartered by Congress in 1954, we are the legal successor to the Grand Army of the Republic."
Nope. Ended Saturday night, they've scattered across the country.
Do you hold a hereditary membership? Hopefully you don't mind me asking. I am still reading through the website. It is very interesting to say the least.
Ted
Actually no. My membership is as an Associate. (My family immigrated to the US of A from Poland in the early 1930s.)
That's cool. They say we are a nation of immigrants.
None of my family served in the civil war. I came to join the organization through relatives. A number of guys in the family on my wifes side have civil war ancestors.
