I had not visited gaylonghair.com for a long time. Found that the domain is "parked" and the contents are gone. Wayback Machine has saved parts of, see link below.

Wayback Machine: gaylonghair.comI am not a gay man but I am dismayed by this. I wonder what caused this. Thank goodness for the wayback machine!

Quote from http://bill.choisser.com/ :
"Bill died in his sleep on May 17, 2016, at age 69, following a 10 year battle with Polymyositis, a chronic muscle disease that attacks the organs."
I have seen that the domain has expired on 2018-04-11. Bill was the founder of gaylonghair.com , but perhaps there was nobody to prolong the domain. I do not know if Bill's late husband is aware of this.
For those people who do not know Bill: just read his essay "On Being a Longhair" http://www.choisser.com/longhair/

Hi ManeBear,
What a wonderful photo! Bill was a great guy even though I never met him personally. I am sad for this. May he Rest in Peace forever! Godspeed Bill! I shall keep my hair growing in his honor.

Maybe someone forgot to renew the domain name or didn't have the money to do so? Or maybe someone didn't have the time to maintain it?
I looked at the contact one from the archive menu, and found this email for the webmaster: strat@torchlake.com
Hi ManeBear,
I can shed some light on this that will help. The site gaylonghair.com was being run solely by John Shepherd
as there were no other moderators and John likely was
financing the site as well.Bill Chossier did write the
software just like he did for mlhh which is why they
looked alike.I do know activity at gaylonghair was non existent
anymore so I'm assuming John threw in the towel. It's
truly sad and I'm not sure if John has any plans to
bring it back.Even here at mlhh we have experienced a
drop off in activity but at least we are still alive. We
have a few great moderators left helping out and I personally
have been financing the mlhh myself. We used to ask for donations
but I just decided to pay the bills for now.Hope this helps
my friends :) Cheers and have a great weekend.

We used to ask for donations
Hi Mark,
Thanks much for keeping the MLHH going! Hopefully this will bring more people to post here. I have 2 more months to hit my 1 year growth. Hopefully I can post my update! Thanks again and please take care my friend!

Thanks for keeping this enterprise going Mârk. Are you still accepting donations? I'm sure there are some members that would help out.

That was a sister site to MLHH. Long hair isn't popular among gays, so it was a place that gays who did choose to grow their hair long, could come together & support one another. Of course they have always been welcome here, and a few posted here as well as Gay Longhair. MLHH has always been diverse, so I would hope that gays looking for support for choosing long hair, would find a welcome here as well. The welcome mat is always out.
On a side note, but has anybody noticed that the revived Queer Eye TV show has one gay with longhair on its team? I don't watch it, but saw promo photos for the show. His name is Jonathan Van Ness, and he's a hairdresser. Such a prominent gay longhair just might help more gays consider longhair.
Below is a cast photo including the long haired cast member.
Queer Eye Cast PhotoHi Carol,
First off thanks for that heads up about Queer Eye as I used to watch that show years ago but wasn't aware it was back on again. Also having one show member with long hair is refreshing being in the past they would scalp any guy with longhair getting a makeover.
As far as gaylonghair goes I would check it daily but was saddened that activity essentially screeched to a halt. Not sure why activity stopped so abruptly but I would guess the competition for social media sites is partly to blame.Heck, even here at mlhh activity isn't close to what it was years ago.Anyway thank you for stopping in to comment as your always welcome here my friend.Cheers

The new Queer Eye is on Netflix. And they were big on haircuts on the old show. The only exception on the old show was ice skater John Zimmerman. He stated that he would not do the show if any of the guys suggested he cut his hair. Zimmerman has shoulder length hair now, but it was a bit longer back then. His hair was off limits, but he was open to anything else the Queer Eye team could do. Basically, they transformed his bachelor pad into a nice home, helped with his wardrobe, and helped him out with proposing to his now wife Sylvia. And they left his long blond locks alone.
I've noticed the drop in activity here, but also in other forums I've participated in as well. Perhaps social media has something to do with it, or the internet has changed. I can recall USENET being quite active in the late 90's, now it's full of spammers.
I'll stop by when I can, to cheer on the newbies as well as veterans, as long as MLHH is here. :-)
Thanks Carol for that update on Queereye.Guess I won't be watching it since I don't have Netflix even though I'm curious what its like now.Yes, I do remember that one guy from the old show who didn't get his hair cut as part of the makeover.I applaud him for putting his foot down about his hair knowing their makeovers always included haircuts.
Not sure why sites like gaylonghair, mlhh, and others are suffering from a downturn in activity but my one thought is facebook.Actually several longhair groups reside there so basically competing for that small slice of the pie known as longhaired men.Basically the survival of mlhh is in my hands at the moment since I chose to finance keeping the board going.I do that for a variety or reasons.Cheers

Actually you should check out NetFlix. There is a new Lost in Space that is really good. Also Gilmore Girls: Seasons is really good too. I haven't seen any incarnation of Queer Eye including the new one (I have Netflix too.)
I'm very aware of Netflix as I hear people talking about it but just was never compelled to check it out.Interesting about a new Lost In Space as I used to watch that show all the time as a kid.LOL.

Without giving out an spoilers this version of Lost in Space is very well done. (Not campy like the original.) Season 2 should air in April 2019.
Usenet was a very flawed very old technology. Many of the usenet providers did not pick up a number of the usenet groups. Also there were many gruops that were dead but still to carried. And they were very slow to add new groups.
Also usenet was infected with what I would call energy creatures. Those are creatures that wouold post inflamatory stuff and then live off the arguements they started. Spam was also a huge problem. Finally Usenet was old technology, you need a desktop or laptop, it never made the transition to smart phones.
At this point I can pretty much guess why activity has stopped or slackened off so much.
When we would hava Star Trek TOS guests at conventions it got to the point where every single question possible got asked of the guests. You name the question i'ts been asked before numerous times. Same thing with a site like MLHH or gaylonghair. Is there anything left to ask that can't be found looking in the archives? Or using Google to search old posts?
I've also noticed that social media plays a part in his too.
If someone has a question they pose it to the hive mind on Facebook.
Hi Carol,
I always love to see your posts! I just wish the world would become as diverse as the MLHH! Thanks for posting about Jonathan Van Ness! Now that is a good looking guy with beautiful long hair! I only can hope my hair looks half as good as his! I have never watched that show but may have to now! It was my thought that a lot of gay men did not like long hair. I have had friends who were gay and they all had clean short haircuts. But we were friends and that was all that mattered. Maybe someone will revive that website soon. Please take care of yourself!
Stay close, Ted
I have told Wayback Machine to save this:

"Every Monday in April, one of the Fab Five are taking over Meghan Trainors #NoExcusesPlaylist and turning it out with 15 handpicked tracks. While well have to wait to see how many of Antonis tracks are inspired by his band t-shirt collection, today weve got grooming expert and meme queen Jonathan Van Ness coming in hot and fabulous with his Wake Up N Makeup playlist."
