Hey long hair folk.
I'v been a standard short haired type for near on 18 years, b4 that i was inside this woman my mother i think she was. ANyway, I want to go for an undercut for the simple reason i don't want to look like a reject from a 1972 glam rock band for a year while the sides catch up. SO any advice are undercuts any good? my hair is at a point now of being short but in serious need of cutting if i were to retain it short.
So like what is the best way to get a standard hair cut into an undercut?
i heard if you get 1cm or so trimmed evey so often it will stop you getting split ends?
ugh i just need advice an lots of it
another thing i notice is men with long hair don;t have side burns i mean i'm sitting here with my side burns long and looking crap what do you lot do? do they just grow so long they wave into your main hair?
I wouldn't advise this... grow it all out. You will have to go through a bad hair phase, but there's no avoiding that, and keeping part of it short just prolongs the agony.
Trim only when needed, otherwise you will slow down your growth sharply. Use a good conditioner, be gentle when brushing, and resist the temptation to let your hair blow in the wind (when it becomes long enough to do so).
I keep my sideburns trimmed... they just don't grow as long as the rest of my hair and feel a lot coarser, like beard hair instead of head hair. I've seen people who have never cut their hair, and they have little wispy hairs in that area too... I just don't think the growth potential is there for most people.
Happy growing.

At least be glad you can grow facial hair. Im 23 and only have patches.
Here's some advice.
The first time I grew my hair out (from a complete butch), I grew it for 17 months with one single cut. I parted it down the middle. It looked awful and I wore a hair a lot. I then thought I'd try a trim. BIG MISTAKE. It looked so bad and I was so angry I buzzed it all off.
Fast forward. Now Im growing my hair again (from a complete butch). This time I'm putting gel on it and coming it straight back (pretty much). I like this a lot more. It holds pretty much the whole day and stays out of my eyes. Now, the only parts I plan on trimming is my sideburn area and nape of my neck.
i love the undercut. it doesn't look great on everyone, but i really like it. i had one for about a year. . .but eventually got kind of tired of it,so now, i keep the back of the neck trimmed, and the rest has grown back. in order for it to be a true undercut, the rest of your hair must be long enough to pull back into a pony tail, so that the undercut is seen. . .so IF the rest of your hair isn;t that long, i would wait until it is before getting it cut.
as far as trimming goes, i will agree with most everyone else here, don't do it. unless the hair you have is in unusually bad condition, you defeat the purpose of growing your hair out when you trim it!
sideburns. . .well, i have long hair, i have sideburns, and they are down to the bottom of my ears. now *the hair* of my sideburns are trimmed fairly short. . .so basiclly, my sideburns begin close to the top of my ear.

I's not an expert in undercuts. However, justa quick comment. Anything that sounds like a short hair cut should be discouraged.
I believe that a guy can trim its hair just like women do. For example, cut it one inch or so. If oyur hair is in bad condition you might neeed to cut it more.
