Hello
When my hair was very short i was using pantene leave in conditioner to fix it. it holds fairly well and figured was best/healthy thing to use. Now as my hair is getting longer, it is beginning to get a little too wavy for my liking and the pantene is beginning to lose its holding power against my longer hair as it curls. i used to have hair about 7 inches long before and gel did the trcik, but now i want what is best for my hair to keep it as healthy as possible. I dont plan on blow drying my hair(thats bad right?) so if you all can help me in the best products i would appreciate it. I have thin dry hair, and for now i pretty much just comb it straight back until it gets longer (about 3 inches now) so until then. whats the best thing to hold the curls back, i assume non alcoholic already, but is there such a thing as a gel that will hold and be healthy or at least not damaging to your hair?? thanks a lot. Misho
I am having the same problem. I used to use a touch of mousse to control and hold my hair, but as it grows out more, I am having difficulty keeping it under control- particularily the sides. I have since began to experiment with a gel in place of the mousse, but am still having trouble maintaining a well groomed look. Some of my co-workers are beginning to notice that my hair is beginning to look unruly, since in the past I kept a neater, frequently trimmed appearance- going in for a trim every five weeks or so. I am beginning to wonder if growing it out is right for me, but have fallen back on the two week rule as an effort to determine if I really want to cut it short again. At this point my hair is by no means real L O N G yet, but still I am losing patience... I have not been for a hair cut since July and currently my hair is about 4-5 inches long on top and about 3 inches in the back. H E L P ! ! !

I cant tell you enough good things about mousse and gels. I have been using the pantene pro-v foam stuff and I love it. Look at the pic. My hair currently is about 4 inches (bang wise, shorter in the back). Ive been combing straight back and moussing it back. The black and white photo is no mousse. And on the right is from over a year ago when I first attempted to grow it out. I parted it straight down the center with no hair products. I also went 18 months without one hair cut (in this pic Im purposely letting it all poof out). I was trying to grow it out as fast as possible. I definitely did not like parting it down the center for the growing out phase, which contributed to me cutting it. This time around I have a plan! Trim around the sideburns and the frizzies in the neck area. I just need to beat going bald as Im receding now. So far so good. Mousse is great!
Misho: Gels, I generally believe, are good for your hair as long as
you stick with the non-alcoholic versions. This is because i've read
about alcoholic based gels/sprays having negative effect on your hair. This is not from personal experience, though.
Anyway, misho, I have long curly, wiry hair. I'm also looking for the perfect gel as have many problems keeping my hair in place. Specially
during those windy days-
Help anyone?
I use LA Looks Mega Hold - experimented a little to figure out how much to use, but it works great. A little gel eliminates most frizzies and fly-aways, a little more helps shape the hair the way you want, a lot will keep everything in place in the middle of a hurricane.
January 28 will be one year since my last haircut - I wouldn't have made it this far without gel.
Hang in there!
So gel is not damaging to the hair itself then right?? And since my haor is dry i dont want to wash it everyday, so just rinsing with water and condioting will be good enough then?? please give details from your best knowledge and own use please, i dont want to switch to gel yet if it will be harmfull in any way. thanks Misho
Right. Be sure the gel is marked "alcohol free." Dep and LA Looks both make some good, inexpensive gels.
