Some of you say you go a year without getting a haircut. What about your split ends though? Do they bother you? Have they split even farther upthe hair? I'm very curious, I usually get a cut every 3 months to get the ends off.
It's been 18 or 19 months since my last haircut, and I have yet to find a split end. My wife and I looked last night but found none. I guess not everybody gets split ends.

All I gotta say is you're extremely lucky!
Cool! I didn't even know I was lucky! Come to think of it, my wife did say something like, "I know you have them, we just can't find them..." This of course after at least 20 minutes of searching. I think she must be jealous.

It's just a hassle having to cut off split ends cuz it stops the growth rate, which really sucks since I'm trying to get my hair to a reasonably long length.
Goodluck! And keep it growing!
I get static from the most unexpected people about getting a trim to eliminate split ends. I got out three different magnifying glasses; the regular reading type, a photograph eyepiece, and a textile thread counter. After a year without a "trim" I only found a couple very short split ends out of hundreds of hairs. Those splits were about a half inch long.
I also examined the ends of the old hair that comes out on my brush - same result. My hair is down to my butt.
Suggestion: Just get out a magnifying glass and examine the ends of your hair. If they are split, get the trim to the length of the splits you find. If you're lucky you won't need the trim...AND, when people say that you need one you can tell them that you've examined your hair under magnification and there are not enough split ends to warrant the trim. Sure shuts them up.
I haven't had my hair cut since around December of 1997. In October of 1997, I buzzed my head down to 1/8 of an inch all over in a big religious delusion about it being a shame for a man to have long hair. I shaved hair off that was down to my shoulders and I kept shaving it occassionally, then got my last cut at a salon around the last week of December '97. All this might have been for the better because back around January of 1997 I had my hair long on top and short on the sides so the long hair fell over it. I later decided to thicken it up on the sides and I'd go about every month and get the long hair shortened to get a closer match with the sides. Shaving it all off at least gave me a fresh start.
On the topic of split ends, I decided to check and I couldn't find any tonight. I saw one one day and just pulled the whole thing out. :) Anyway, now if I pull my hair to the front of my shoulders, it's even with my armpits. I swear, I think back to all the goofy looking stages where my hair curled out to the sides from the back, my bangs tickling my forehead and then the end of my nose while I was waiting for my hair to grow long enough to put behind my ears. Finally it got long enough for that, then long enough to include my bangs in a pony tail. I remember all that and how long it took and I'd have to think long and hard about ever cutting it again because I know if I do, I'll just want to grow it back out again and I'll have to go through it all again.
A couple of times in the last two or three months I've come really close to shaving my head back to 1/8 of an inch again after getting irritated with persistent tangling, but so far I've resisted the urge. I do like it long more than short. That much is certain.
