I recently decided to grow my hair out. I have very curly, thick hair. Lately I have been shampooing and conditioning my hair every day and that seems to be working quite well in keeping my hair in place. I'm concerned when it gets longer, it will be harder to manage and when my hair gets long, I get curls and bangs that fall in my face. I don't mind that outside of work but I have to look well-groomed for work. As far as i know, length of hair is not an issue in our office as long as it is well-groomed. A gentleman who worked where I do last year had waist-length hair but it was kept nicely and was never an issue. Like I said, I want long hair but I want to keep it from flopping in my face while at work and I also don't want it to look like a wild bird's nest either. Also is there a gel or a substance that can be put in hair that doesn't look like it was all slicked back and greasy? Any suggestions? I am definetly looking for some. My goal is to have hair long enough that I can fling and toss around and let fall in my face when I am not at work.
Grow the bangs out and flip 'em over the top. That's what I'm doing.I'm on the "tail end" of the awkward stage, I'm about 2 inches shortof my target length, but the bangs are probably 6 inches away from that. For now, I'm using "super hold" hairspray, which helps. I'll putsome kind of hat on if I'm going to be in the wind for any lenghtof time, or when I'm dancing. I'm told that the need for spray will diminish as my hair gets to its full length.YMMV-Zorba Re: holding hair in place? The "every day" part, I mean. As a longhair your hair strands must last for years, and daily shampooings may be a bit hard on your hair. About two years ago we took a survey on this board, and it turned out most longhairs wash their hair two or three times a week. A few said once a week or daily, but most went for that middle ground. As you get more hair, by the way, it will absorb more oil from your head, and you won't feel the need to wash your scalp so often. What you want to shoot for is the minimum amount of washings, and the mildest product, that still looks good. Trial and error is how you get your answers because this is indeed one place "your mileage may vary"....
