I decided that I would grow the back of my hair first and continue getting trims on the top and sides. The back is now about 1" past the bottom of my dresshirt collars at work, as I work in a conservative office. I have not received any flack yet about the extra length, so am thinking about trying a longer style. I am in my early forty's and have not had long hair before. Any suggestions or this an idea I should give up? I have thought about foregoing all trims, but feel that would draw too much attention. I work in a corporate environment in a professional capacity.
Speaking as one who was only a parttimer in a corporate office, it can be done and look 'conservative". I had the front and sides (infront of my ears)relatively short, parted on the side, and combed slightly back. This merged well with the hair behind my ears which fell to mid-shoulder blade. When tied back and the ponytail stuffed down my shirt) it looked short. It even looked short, from the front, when the tail wasn't stuffed.
I too gave myself a 40th birthday present and started growing
mine out for the first time. I work in a corporate environment
and are pretty much the only one with a pony tail. Mine
is long in the back, about to top of shoulder blades. Short on
top and in front of ears. Go for it if you can. It seems to me
most coworkers do not care one way or another. My age group is
in charge anyway or close to it.
this may seem like a pretty practical solution, but what isn't??
talk to your boss...if that is okay, take care of your hair, comb it, keep it nice and tidy, and you'll look spiffy. I don't think people have a problem with people that keep themselves neat and tidy.
