Have any of you noticed a correlation between wearing a cap and thinning hair? I used to work at Pizza Hut where a cap was part of the dress code. I never wore it until the manager threw a fit about his supervisor coming for a visit and even then I only wore it while inside the building. I was mostly afraid that wearing the cap would cause a buildup of "body steam" and keep the scalp from breathing and airing properly, clogging the pores, and ultimately resulting in a thinning of the hair.
Anybody experienced this?
Ethan, if anyone told this was true then you've been had m'boy! "Body steam" causes hairloss? Not to be too graphic here but, I take it you still have all of your pubic hairs, right? If any body hair was going to go from being constantly covered up it would be those body hairs.
About the only correlation between hats and hair loss is that the hair loss has occured first and the hats come along second to hide it. As far as I know hair folicles do not need to breath quite so much as skin pores in order to work. Two different things - luckily.
So, sorry to say, wearing or not wearing a hat will make little diference when it comes to hair growth. I think it is also a trade-off when it comes to protecting hair as well. Keeping it under control by wearing a hat or cap might save some hair but letting it fall free might stimulate faster growth of existing hairs by the "pulling action" of its natural movement. Then again, I could be completely wrong about that.
Anybody know of any studies in this regard? Is growth in existing hair folicles stimulated by the movement of the hair strands?
Keepin' it long,

I'm growing my hair out, and it's frequently unruly. I wear a hat often, and when I can't, I slick my hair with gel. Looks good, actually.
