Hello gentlemen,
I'm new to the board, though not new to long hair. After growing my hair for nearly 4 years I cut most of it off two months ago. It really hurt. One of the most stupid things I've done in a while, to be sure :)
I can't bear the thought of waiting 4 years to have 14" long hair again, but I suppose I don't have much of a choice. Or do I? Are there any *proven* methods for getting hair to grow back quicker (washing with cold or hot water, vitamins, trimming dead ends, any other options?).
My second question, relating somewhat to the first is in regard to a red area on the crown of my head. I've had this for years and finally some hair loss is occuring. I'm 30 years of age and have 3 older brothers who are not experiencing any loss at all, and my father of 67 years is far from being bald himself.
Could this be a case of a fungus or rash of some kind? If treated can the hair loss be recovered?
Finally, as I wait for my locks to grow again, what styles would look good with shorter hair? I'm not immune to adopting a traditional women's style for the time being. I've even considered looking into getting a wig or two, but I don't know how I feel about that yet.
Thanks for your input,
Michale
To your first question:
As far as I know and other people on this board say there is nothing to speed up your natural hair growth apart from making sure you get enough of the necessary vitamins and trace elements human hair needs.
To your second one:
I can think of 2 possibilities:
- the red spot is an area with naturally thin hair and is red because the sun can reach the skin easier as elsewhere on your head
- or this spot reflects some sort of skin/hair disease or infection.
I would consult a dermatologist to sort this problem out.
Good luck!
