I am half Leni Lenape Indian in the process of growing my hair out. Anyways, in the past whenever I would go to a stylist they would always mention that my naturally very thick coarse hair must be damaged because "no one's hair could be that way" has anybody else had this happened to them and what did you say in response?
Hi there! As near as I can tell (we didn't keep good records) I am about 3/16 Choctaw Indian. I have very thick, coarse hair as well, with a bit of a wave from the non-Indian side. You might do as I do and play up some of the good side of coarser hair- it dries faster, is easier to detangle, and is much tougher than finer hair.

Right on!
Why not say, "I think you need to go back to beauty school"? :-)
That's a good one. I think I will use that. What's funny is that I am a beautician myself! :)
My mother once was hospitalized in Guatemala and shared a room with a Mayan woman. Her hair was so coarse and thick that although it was waist-length, she brushed it straight up and it stayed that way. I don't think damaged hair would be able to do that.
My hair does the same exact thing! :)
