Humans are intended by Nature to have long hair and to loose some of their long hair every day. The lost hair's natural purpose is to provide material for birds to use to build their nests with. Not to grow your hair long is to bring hardship to the birds we share the Earth with.
When you brush your hair, when you comb your hair, when you clean up the long hairs from most anywhere, save them in a box or a bag and every now and then set the hair you've saved outside where the birds will find and use it to build their nests this spring.
There is nothing cooler than finding a bird's nest built using your own hair as a major part of the nesting materials. Human hair helps the nest last from season to season with only minor touch ups by the birds.
Try it, enjoy it. It's a great project for kids.
What a great idea! Count me in.
Here in New Zealand we are heading for winter now, but the birds around my place will have plenty of nesting material available next spring!
More animals than birds have a use for extra hair. If you or your children happen to keep hamsters, gerbils, or similar small creatures, try giving it to them. Hair makes excellent nesting material for them, too.

People spend so much time and effort at the bidding of the fashion industry, and yet they are just arguing with their body's natural and healthy activity in growing their own complement of hair.
Hair has a role akin to the peacocks feathers, and its natural beauty can speak of letting nature be beautiful. It can be a nature loving statement and a message to others. Hair to groom, braid with and care for can have a role in human communication and affection. It can offer warmth, protect from the sun (avoid a sunburnt red neck). It may also carry vibes connecting us to our past with the stability of peace.
