Hello,
I've had long hair all of my adult life, and I'm noticing it's starting to thin some on the top front of the hair line. The idea of loosing my hair really bothers me - because personally if I lose it on top I'll shave the rest, I just don't like that "bald on top with longhair on the sides look" for myself - it works great for some guys, but I'm not one of them.
I know in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter how much hair I have. But the fact is, it matters to me a great deal and going bald is a very very very very (I could throw a lot more verys in) sore spot with me because it's always been a part of my personal identity on more levels than I even care to get into here. Suffice to say, I'm willing to do whatever it takes to prevent loosing any more.
The dilemma - I've done some looking around on the internet (and of course there are all those commercials on TV and radio) and everyone says something different... I noticed that everyone is selling something too, and by coincidence their product is the best and everyone else's is a scam, according to each one. I haven't been able to find an impartial voice to let me know what really does work and what doesn't to prevent hair loss, and all the ones that say they regrow hair I really susect are scams (Rogaine included perhaps, but this kind of info is exactly what I need to find out for sure).
I would very much appreciate any input other than snide remarks such as one someone typed earlier on this board (not mentioning any names). If my being this upset about hairloss makes me shallow, then so be it, the request for info still stands.
Thank you all in advance for your help.
Sincerely,
A desperate longhair (who wants to loose the "desperate" and keep the longhair!!!)
Jim,
I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you buddy, but I just want to reassure you that I'm sure thousands of other long-haired men feel the same way about their hair...I know I do!!! If it started to thin...well. I don't know what I'd do, but I'd spend money on sorting it out!! It is an identity thing. At the end of the day, if your little was falling off you'd go to a Doctor and get it sorted. Same with hair. I hope you get some info, man....I guess (if it's not too embarrassing) you could always go to your Doctor. I'm sure if you explain quite how much it means to you (and there are psychological problems that can arise with self-image, loss of confidence, etc) ...he's more likely to have medical advice on what to do. I guess it's also possible that your problem could be a medical one, such as stress or whatever. It's worth checking out, maybe.
I hope you get it sorted...
Cheers.
we all have our limits. i'll probably do the long hair and bald spot but not a rug.
i am currently in my 50's and use generic rogaine and propecia. i've been on the former for years. the propecia has definitely helped regrow hair in front. however, the hair does not seem to grow as long as it once did. it's a good compromise for me--long hair with some thinning on top. i have not experienced any of the reported side effects--but then, my needs are not the same as they were in my 20's. see a doctor-you don't have to explain your innermost fears and feelings.

You could try Amonia and Clorox!
Works for me!
What, no Peroxide?
