I have fairly curly hair. I want to grow it out but when the sides get much over the ears they "bozo" out. Even with liberal applications of gel. My job prevents me from wearing a hat most of the time. Any suggestions?
Thanks
I don't know how "curly" your hair is but it sounds like you have tried growing it out before with mixed results...I think if you experiment with different maximum hold gels or sprays, one of them will work for you. I am in the process of growing out my hair for the first time in several years...the top is about six inches and the sides about four inches, and the back is about 8 inches long which I tie into a pony tail. I use Suave max gel and Dep8 gel on the top and sides to hold it down. I don't comb it out after it dries and that seems to tame the curls.
I have very curly hair and I used to straighten it while I was growing it to avoid the Coco the clown look - but I must admit tis isn't a long term solution and may not help the condition of your hair.
Thanks to both of you. I think I'll try those different gels before any drastic straightening. My hair tends to be dry as it is.
Mine's curly too. The Bozo look is a bitch. Two or three rules
1..Don't cut it untill its at least long enough to tie into a ponytail
Then maybe a SLIGHT trim.
2. Don't be afraid of things like gel, spray, mousse, anti frizz serum, and blowdryers. All can help control excessive curl. There is also something called straightening balm that works well. If you use something with a lot of hold like Dep8, and don't do anything after the gel dries, you can control almost any amount of curl.
3. I've even used hair setting tape along with the gel, until it dried. Gotta be pretty openminded for that, tho.
Chemical straightening is a last resort. It works, but can be damaging, and you'll still have to use styling and/or moisturizing products regularly.
