Hello folks. This is my first post (I only recently stumbled upon this group) so please go easy on me if I blunder into something that's been covered a thousand times already. Thanks! Anyway, I am growing my hair out again for the second time this life and I am looking for a little advice. My hair is just about down to my shoulders now but not quite. My problem is that, while the hair on top is weighed down and nice, the bottom inch or so at the ends curls up and turns into "FLOOF" when dry. It gives me this bell-shaped profile that I hate! This is what caused me to..*gulp*..shave it all the first time and I regretted it! Now I say I will never cut it again until I go bald but this is bugging me once agin. There seems to be no way to get it to straighten out or weigh it down. I've tried gel but it doesn't work well - it only makes it stiff or sticky and I hate the stuff. I think: "Just an inch or two more all around and I can just tie it all back" but I waited and waited last time and just gave up. Yeah, yeah, I know: "Patience, Grasshopper!" but is there anything else that I can do? Like I said my hair looks great wet, but when it's dry and a slight breeze comes up then *POOF*! What I want to know is:
(1) Will this "curl" mellow out as the hair gets longer?
(2) Is there anything I can do in the meantime before the bangs and all catch up before I can put it in a ponytail?
(3)Are there any readily available products out there that will help promote faster healthy growth and length? And where can I find them?
Any help would be much appreciated! I am tired of having to wet a comb and "touch-it-up" everytime I go somewhere I can't wear a hat. Wish I could wear my girlfriend's headband out of the house but I get enough odd looks in this redneck town! Ah well. Thanks for any help in advance!
it's most likely that your curl will mellow out or become more of a wave as your hair grows out. i had a similar problem where my hair curled to ONE side as it neared shoulder length. this became a wavy texture as the length crept down my back. not alot you can do outside of hats or bandanas as you don't like gooping your hair up with gels or mousses (i don't blame you).
as far as comments are concerned... they're just comments. you really shouldn't be offended that someone is willing to expose their weakness of character to you. you have to be secure with who you are and growing your hair should help you develop a thicker skin against the narrow-minded comments of others. remember, they have every right to have whatever opinion of your appearance they wish however wrong you may believe them to be. there's no law against ignorance.
you have a 2 month wait for every inch your hair is from reaching a ponytail... another 6-12 months after that for it to stay tied back.
That happened to me too. I think it's caused by the hair ends touching your neck as they dry. What I did was use Frizz-ease silicone mousse on my hair after washing, and then comb it straight while using blow dryer. That probably isn't very good for hair, but it seemed to keep it under control (for a few hours anyway).
Yes, it will. (If your hair's like mine)
