I have been growing my hair now for about a year and a half and it is about three fists full if I pull itinto a pony tail. I really love long hair and will never go back to short again!!!! I always wear it in a pony tail for work (that is the trade of for keeping my conservative job), although now the bangs go right to the back I dont need to slick it. I intend to grow it well past mid-back (it is already about 'quater back', but the only problem I have at the moment is the wispy neck hair at the bottom of the hair line at the back. I have some fine wispy hair that still has not grown long enough to go into the the pony tail so it just sort of curls their and looks untidy during work.
I am hoping that in about 3-6 more months it will grow long enough to smoothly go into the pony, but I am worried that hair in this spot at the bottom of the hair line doesnt actually grow much more than it has.... I am contemplating just cutting that small area, but Im not sure how that would look (and the work cutting scares me as a first time long hair grower). Has anyone had a similar period, and did the hair grow out enough to go into the pony tail neatly, or did you have to cut it instead ?
thanks.
you're better off shaving the finer hairline neck hairs. i have the same thing- i get lazy sometimes & my hairline in back gets to looking unkempt. if you want to present a well groomed appearance for the office shave it or better yet, have your girlfriend shave it. i guess i'm not the only person who measures hair by fistfuls. about 6½ here.
Unless you are fated to have thinning hair at a young age, hair at different parts of the head doesn't usually grow that drastically differently. What is probably happening is that those hairs are a little weaker from constantly being pulled up into a ponytail and break off sooner. Having a thin area of shaved neck will definitely clean up your appearance, but keep in mind that you will have to maintain that small strip just as often as you would a head full of short hair.
I agree with John- shave the little wispy hairs or get someone else to do it for you if you can. I've always had those, and they never get any longer than 3-4" or so- I guess they are just the transition between the thicker scalp hairs and the minimal neck hairs.
