hi,
i just stumbled on to this site while looking for info on roller sets. i am a relativley new stylist and nail tech. one of my regular nail customers wanted a roller set and i found the info here. thank you all very much !! her 14 yo son comes in with her and has long hair also, i kind of kidingly suggested a bob and bangs for him also, mom loved the idea, he acted a little embarrassed. he would look cute, but was i wrong to suggest?
did u talk her into it or not??? ;-)
we waaan see pics.
Hello Barb,
No - I don't think you were wrong to suggest the bob style. That is, assuming you genuinely thought it would look OK. After all - you are a professional and you are supposed have a good idea about what will, or will not, look good on a client.
I am all for bob styles for men - I think they can look really smart. My own hair is a shoulder length bob with a fringe (bangs for US readers). I've had it this way for a couple of years or so now and never had any adverse comments. Maybe some people might think it a bit feminine, but no-one has ever said anything to my face. In any case that doesn't bother me - I'm all for breaking down stereotypes!
Any more bob-haired men or their partners care to comment?
Steve
I had a bob for several years, but since then it's grown out. Looked great, and my girlsfriend of the time had the same haircut, so we were a matching pair ! The bob was always one length, without a fringe/bangs. It's still one length now, but shoulder-length, usually worn in a pony tail.

First of all, 14yr old boys don't like to be thought of as 'cute', unless it was by a 14yr old girl in the context of "He's soooo cute." Try showing him some variations or layerings. Just remind mom that her son should like it first. If she pushes it on him, he might resent her for it later. Trust me.
I am currently in the process of growing my hair and trying to grow out layers. I was wondering about trying a bob style cut and like the look worn by Sandra Bullock in Speed. I thought I had seen a post about this somewhere here but can't find it now. What do others think and has anybody tried it - if so what is maintenance like and how did people react?
Paul,
Here is a pic showing Sandra's style from the film. I think that would look fine on a guy if you have the right sort of hair - is your hair naturally straight or curly and is it thick or fine? Maintenance would be pretty easy - just a regular cut to keep it neat and I would think styling it would be easy enough too - you could even just let it dry naturally after washing it.

Paul,
As an alternative to the Sandra Bullock look posted above and even the Gillian Anderson look which has been posted elsehwere on this board, what about something like this? Perhaps it could be seen as a bit more femme - though I am not sure about that. It would require a bit more styling to dry the ends under and so on, but perhaps leaving these straighter would make it less femme anyway. Any views from you or others on this?
Let us know what you decide.

Sorry - I meant to link to a bigger pic and not the thumbnail.
See the pic - any views on tjhis as a growing out/longer bob type style.
Definitely not bad, Cath - And I've always loved Sandra's hair colour!
