Now that the warm weather is here, does anyone have any creative new ideas for styles to keep cool, other than the dreaded ponytail?
You could try just tying the front section back and leaving the back down - doesn't keep your neck as cool as a ponytail, but it does keep your hair off your face and is a bit more unusual.
You can always go with a braid, or if your more adventuresome, a bun. I've seen a few guys with a bun, and I didn't see anyone hassle them over it.
Well, I am a female, so I admit I can be more comfortable with a wider range of hairstyles. However, my hair is pretty long (8 fistfuls in a pony', as someone measured awhile ago), and I hate having it down, so I must find new 'dos...
My favorite style to wear my hair in is a simple french braid. With practice, it is not difficult, stays in for a long time, looks fancy, doesn't get in the way if you need to wear a hat/helmet, and keeps your hair from tangling. If you are unable to do a french, you could try just a regular braid, starting near your neck. This is also a good way to wear your hair to bed, if you worry about it getting in someone's face or tangling overnight.
My hair is midback and very thick...so I understand your need to get it off your neck. I use a banana clip (at least that's what I call them...it's those clip things that pretty much every women with hair past her shoulders owns) and twist it up...or a bandana headband...or just twist it and use a barette to hold it up. Personally I don't pay much mind to the whole "girls" vs. "guys" style thing. Neat well maintained hair looks good on everyone. And when it's hot...who really cares as long as you feel better.
Yeah, I've started using my wife's butterfly clips too. This style is so ubiquitous among women these days that frankly I get tired of seeing it, but it has a couple of advantages: it's less severe than the "yank all of your hair back in ponytail" 'do, and it's a way to put your hair up but be able to take it down easily and still look good. I also wear a french braid -- but only when my wife is around cause I sure can't manage it myself. Then there's pigtails -- ......
I have tried out the pigtails idea also. With a ponytail, when
my back sweats, it still gets hot. With pigtails tied around the
middle of the back of the ear, the tails stay off my neck and seems
to be alot less hot. I only catch a little bit of grief for non
manly style.
The other thing I do is wear a bandana as a headband -- pull it down around your neck, flip your head over so your hair hangs straight down, and push the bandana back onto your forehead and behind your ears. If it's tight enough it tends to give you some breathing room on your neck. I wear a lot of headbands and this looks less feminine -- if that's what yr into........
hi please can you help me i want to have my hair up but i can only seem to make it look nice in 1 style, and its getting a bit boaring so please can you help by sending me pictures of other styles i could have my hair up. thanxs. kayley.
I wear braids during the summer. Mostly frenche braids, because they stay in better. Pig tails aren't for most on this board, but i'm into them, because they keep the hair off your back and neck, and are quite cute. Another style for the less adventurous men, is to tie a pony tail, and pull it only half way thru, it is a good way to keep hair up, and off your neck and back. Scrunchy's are better for this style. Butterfly clips are a little too feminine, but if you want to use them, they are very good. My other style is a bun, best secured with a scrunchy. Hey if you are going to have long hair, accesories are part of the fun or hassle. And finally, if it is too hot, go swimming. I'm looking for you guys, to do something out of the norm, if you see me, you will see one
Didn't Willie Nelson make pig tails and braids exceptable?
I like wearing them in the summer also. There is a variety
of styles that can be gotten from pig tails. Try it, you will
like it. I only catch marginal grief over the styles.
Thank you everyone for your great ideas. I wanted to start simply, so this past weekend I tried pigtails (over the ear, hanging in front). I loved them! Today, I'm going to tie them a little higher.
