A friend told me the other day that she takes vitamin E to strengthen, promote growth, increase health (etc) of her hair.. She has waist length hair and it is gorgeous.. Is there any truth to this??
Has anyone tried it?? My hair is mid-back length..
Be careful when changing your diet. I don't have the details immediately at hand, but I heard I think on Dr. Dean Edell's show that taking vitamin E supplements can be hazardous. If I can find more details, I'll post it.
With any supplements, you should be careful. It is more important to get a well balanced diet. By taking supplements, you could throw the balance of nutrients in your diet out of balance.
Definitely be careful with Vitamin E. Taking excessive amounts can be toxic to your entire system, let alone your hair. I don't agree with the comment about your diet versus supplements. Most people do not get or retain enough nutrients. Let's not even discuss the quality of the source of those nutrients. If you want your hair to remain strong or become stronger, you should check out the B vitamins, including Biotin. The B vitamins are water soluble like Vitamin C. That just means you would have to take a tremendous amount of these vitamins to become toxic. If your are drinking plenty of fluids and going to the bathroom to flush, you should not have a problem. Happy growing!!
The problem with supplements is that they are frequently incomplete. The B complex vitamins are a good specific example. Taking supplements high in B complex vitamins will increase your total intake. However, if you use supplements vs. eating foods rich in B complex vitamins, you will be getting only a small number of the vitamins, shortchanging yourself from the others. Better would be to eat more vegetables, such as broccolli that are high in B vitamins.
I don't profess to be an expert on this. Consult a nutritionist before you change your diet. Your diet includes supplements.
Thanks for the info guys.. In the interum from my last post, I saw my doctor and he recommended about the same thing: a balanced diet.. We all know that having long hair is a time consuming commitment and getting a balanced diet surely means more than frequent trips to McDonalds..
Guess I need to go out and buy a few cookbooks..
