It has taken me a while, but Ive decided once and for all to let my hair grow out, probably at least to shoulder length. It is starting to fill in nicely, as it started as a buzz last december. I work in a very conservative office and am already getting some grief from people, even though it is always clean and neat. I am looking for suggestions on how to wear it once it finally comes in, How long it will take before I can consider it "long" (fully over ears now), is there any dietary supplements to consider for vigourus hair growth, and last, but not least, what kind of reaction have other people gotten when they went from a life of "conservative" hair to Long Hair. Thanks!
Craiger,
Congrats and great news. Perhaps you could send pictures to Victor
of how it looked as a buzz cut and how it looks as it grows out.
Perhaps keeping it off the ears is best for a conservative look.
You can use hairspray until it is long enough to tie back in a ponytail (at least at the office). Another alternative is getting it styled so that it is shorter in front and sides but flows down in the back (but not, of course, in an extreme way, if you want to keep 'conservative'). Depends on what you like and what's best for you. It's long when you consider it long, other peoples opinions shouldn't matter. The ultimate cure for a conservative office is to wear a wig over the long hair.
There have been other posts on this subject, but your own genes are the main thing that determines how vigorous your hair will grow.
Intake of adequate vitamins and protein is the most important.
Avoid dandruff and the extremes of too dry or too oily a scalp.
I work in a liberal environment and my hair has been shoulder length
or longer most of my adult life. When I went to a ponytail four years ago, there was virtually no reaction. The last time I had short hair was in 1969, and I grew it out with everybody else in those days, but
never went back to short hair again (and, I daresay, never will).
I also work in a VERY conservative office environment. I started 5 years ago with collar length hair. Now it is past the middle of my back.
I have it short on the sides (over the ear), which keeps it "neat " looking. Just recently I started wearing it in a pony tail, in which I received lots of compliments. I still get kidded about the length from my male co-workers, but I say "so what"!
Thanks for the advice! Paul J suggested I pull my hair back over my ears and this seems to have worked, as several people have asked if I got my hair cut. (no...no way) but it is more under control.
I would still like to here from people concerning their experiences of growing their hair out from the "conservative" look to longer, shoulder length or beyond, hair. It seems to take forever, and everyone has a comment, but so far its been fun.
by the way, I am enjoying Cath's pic's. Someday I hope to have enough hair to try some cools stuff.

Way cool ! How about posting some pics of your hair as it grows out from the buz cut..........?????????
Sure would love to post those pics, Pete J. suggested the
same. I porbably will but would like to let it grow for a while more(perhaps several months) before I do so, as it is just now over my ears and resting on my collar) In the mean time, i am STILL looking for stories from other people that have done the same thing.
ps: sorry to pete j for confusing you with paul j. I appriciate your advice.
