Last night my daughter and I saw Shanghai Noon, the latest Jackie Chan movie. This movie was a refreshingly non-PC movie. Among the groups being stereotyped and/or dissed were Chinese, jews, Mexicans, Texans, and American Indians. But that's not why I'm writing about the movie. I'm writing because of the treatment of long hair.
In the movie Jackie Chan plays the part of a Chinese palace guard. All the guard had long hair, and Jackie's queue went down to his knees. In various points of the movie, he actually used his hair as a weapon! Trust Jackie Chan to come up with such a technique. His hair was also a focal point in the movie when a threat was made to cut it off. I won't spoil the movie any further for you by going into further detail.
I'd say this movie is not the greatest as far as Jackie Chan movies go, but if you are a fan of his movies, your going to see it anyway. If you're not, at least check it out.
