i bought a straightening iron today... Conair's Straight Styles... 25 bucks!! anyways, it sure didn't do what i expected...it didn't make my hair flat!! it SLIGHTLY straightened it...but made it look so dry and frizzy! i don't undderstand... it's very hard to use also. is there anything i can do to get flat hair?
Hi Chris,
Once you get the hang of it, a flat iron can work great.
I've used one for years, and here are a few tips:
First, I recommend shampooing and conditioning with Graham Webb's Stick Straight line. This will help prepare your hair for straightening.
Second, Use a smoothing balm. I've tried them all and the best I've found is ARTec's Smoothing serum.
I have found that if you let your hair air dry then use your flat iron it's much faster and easier.
Start on one side and work your way over to the other side. The use of banana clips will help keep things easy. Gather all your hair to one side and clip it in place. Then take a small section of hair and comb or brush it so it's neat and easy to handle. Starting at the root end, slide the iron along your hair slowly, a couple times. Then repeat with another section. until all your hair has been straightened. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to straightenn my mid-back length hair. It's not perfectly straight, but close to it.
Good luck.
Thanks Paris. I Really don't think my hair is long enough to do it this way yet. my hair only goes past my eyes, and over the top half of my ears. also, i don't only want my hair straight, but also thin and silky. will the iron get this look? is there any other products out there for THIN hair? Thanks a lot everyone.
Well my hair is just to my mouth in the front and TAPERD at the back and side and it works for me well!! DOn't give up!! Try it again!!
Well my hair is just to my mouth in the front and TAPERD at the back and side and it works for me well!! DOn't give up!! Try it again!! By the way IT DOES MAKE UR HAIR FLAT AND SLIKY!!! My hair is so flat that it always fall on my face
How come??? It uesd to have hair like Justin TImberlake from N*sync but since I use that straighting iron it got so flat that it all fall flat on my face!!! Are u sure u're following the direction??? Did u blow ur hair dry straight with some sort of straightening balm first and after it got fully dried THEN use the straighting iron??? and u have to close the blades tightly and slide it down slowly!!! Try it again dude!! I hope it works well for u!!!
well LONG BANGS, i didn't use the straightening balm yet, i still need to buy some. for now, i just thought i'd see how the iron works. it's really hard to separate my hair like they said. are you sure the blow drying won't make it too dry anf puffy? i'm looking for the thin, silky look...... my hair is too course.
Let your hair dry naturally. When it is almost dry, then use the curling iron. Roll your hair away from your part and away from your face. Hold briefly. Do not fry. Proceed in parallel directions with another section of hair. After doing several sections, carefully comb out to see if you are accomplishing what you intend. Then proceed with other sections. It takes 10 -15 minutues to do all your hair. If it is completely dry, wet your hands and shake them off, and run through hair, or use a small amount of a moisturizing agenct. A little steam makes the hair set better. But a curling iron is not a dryer!
hello - we don't want to heat style our hair.... it does nothing but damage.
if you insist... my advice would be:
pomade - buy it at salons - it may be in the drug store - it is thick and feels like grease use only a dime sized drop and massage thoroughly into hair prior to heat treatment. this will keep hair folicle smooth and protect shaft from heat damage. don't do this often as heat styling is so damaging and when you have long hair damage really shows.
best of luck.
