Hi,
I'm an Asian male with the typical short Asian haircut. I want to grow my hair long like this guy's. How long will it take? Do I need to get it cut a certain way?
Thanks
Danny
Firstly Danny, all the best with growing your hair and the simple answer is just grow it. I'm an Asian male too and I have fairly long hair and I encourage other men and boys of all races to grow their hair long.
In fact, I find that Asian men and boys can potentially grow their hair longer than Caucasians due perhaps to some genetic quirk (though there are exceptions) and if you are oriental, your hair will usually be long, lovely and straight.
By the way, the picture you posted does not come through. Why not try again.

If I am right in thinking that typically Asian hair is fairly thick and straight you sould be able to acheive this look. More good news is that you shouldn't need too many trims as you are not going for a one length look - quite the opposite in fact. As your hair gets longer, ask your stylist for a few light layers on the ends (nothing too heavy or you may end up with a mullet). It might be a good idea to take the picture to the salon with you - no good hairdresser will mind you doing this and they will be able to tell you if you have the right hair for the style (although as I say, I imagine you do have.) Good luck!
Smurf,
Absolutely correct! My hair is thick and really straight. About how long will it take to grow? My hair was last cut at a 2guard, which was about 2 weeks ago.
By the way, what is a mullet that you are talking about?
Thanks
Danny
Danny,
A "mullet" is a haircut with very short layers on top and then long at the back. It was very fashionable in the mid 80's but is now very dated and seen as a bit of a joke. I've heard rumours its coming back into fashion - I hope rumours are all they are!

hey danny!
cool look! and i imagine, since you are of asian descent, your hair will definitley do this! i agree, you just have to let it grow. if you have a regular person who cuts your hair (hopefully not a barber, since they aren't real long-hair-friendly) take your picture to her/him and let them know what you are working toward. then let it grow! after 4-6 months, you might consider going back for a *trim.* nothing else! but be sure to take the same picture back to remind them what you are working for, since over time, they may have forgotten what you want.
if you have one of those buzz cuts all over that seem to be so popular right now, then have patience! it will take some time to grow out. but i imagine will be well worth the effort!
good luck!
