Hi, since I'm having Serious Problems dealing with my hair. I've been searching..and searching the net for hair care and styling tips for some time now and stumbled upon this board..Well, I'm 25yrs old and have Strange, short, slightly curly, dry hair that mainly curls towards the back..but, not tight curls..the only way I can describe them is by saying Fish Hooks!! Well, the top is only about 2 inches long. the back and sides of my head are shaved really short. I would really like to allow my hair to grow out and hopefully be able to pull it back into a ponytail..but, I'm afraid what it will look like as it goes thru the Bad Phases!!! Even now I have to gob on a bunch of gel to keep it from looking puffy and dry..I'm gentle to my hair..I don't use a brush on it..Only my hand to style it. I use Pantene Shampoo and Daily treatment conditioner. But, it seems like everything I have tried in the past, including Pantene, just doesn't do my hair any good...I'm just about out of ideas...I'd like to know if any one here has Curly/Wavy hair and If they are letting it grow out long..What are some things I can do for my hair as it's getting longer??? I've been cutting my own hair for about 3yrs now with Clippers and I'm Really tired of doing that. I want to grow my hair longer so, I can get a real hair cut and style at a salon like I used to years ago....Any tips or Advice someone can give me would be appreciated!!:)
Thanks,
Marc

I grew my hair out for precisely this reason! Not exactly
curly, just a lot of wave. When it was short, it was totally
uncontrollable at all times, I could comb it and 2 minutes later
look like the wild man from Borneo.
So I let it grow - the awkward phase was bad, but I minimized it
with lotsa hairspray - which I still use as I do NOT tie it
into a ponytail. It is now mostly at my target length (bottom of
shoulderblades), but some of the front hairs haven't caught up
yet.

My hair is exceptionally curly, but I can't really describe the "bad phase" as I straightened it in those days. Actually, I advise avoiding doing what I did - I ended up with very silly waves that looked like nothing on earth. With mousse or g3el, curls should not be too hard to control during the growth process.
You could perhaps try "relaxing" your hair.
