Hi, I posted an earlier message asking for hair tips..Well, since my hair is still short and Looking BAD..I've thought of going to a salon and getting my hair permed as it's going thru the Bad phases!!I Love seeing people with curly, flowing hair!! I think it looks very free-stylish!! Maybe I've grown bored to seeing those with Poker straight hair..I just wish mine was nice and curly and Not so Confused looking...Anyway, how long does Hair need to be for it to hold a perm???? My hair on top and in the back is only about 2inches long with the sides really short..However, I'm going to allow my hair to grow for about another month and a-half before I make an appointment..so, it should be a little longer by then..I'd like to keep the sides short and let the top and back grow out..My hair is not real curly nor is it straight...It is somewhat dry looking and puffy on top with short hairs sticking up all over....which drives me Crazy because, I condition it daily, changing shampoos every so often..Using tons of gel...Aggghh...It just doesn't want to do anything. If anyone here has had their hair permed before..please post and let me know all about it...
I'd greatly appreciate it!!:)
Thanks,
Marc
m,
find a skilled hair stylist and ask his/her advise.
my preference would be an experienced female stylist that works in a mostly female salon that does a lot of perms/colors/and cuts.
1.i like a female stylist because 1 i like women and therefore feel more comfortable with the working on my hair and 2 they seem to be more willing to do what i want with my hair.
2. i like an experienced stylist who has a lot of experience with a lot of hair processes-- perms can be tricky and can damage your hair.
3. i like an old fashion salon because they seem to be more sympathetic to longer hair and less caught up into 'trendy' styles.
in any event develop a relationship with a stylist you can trust and ask their advise- in the long run their advise will be more helpful than any advise you can get on the net from someone who has never seen your hair.

Hey Marc,
Your hair is a bit to short to get it permed now. Go to your stylist and tell them you want a perm and they will tell you when it is long enough. Perms are coming back in thanks to nysnc. You will probably have to wait 3 or so months, but maybe not. your first one will be tight because its so short. For now try gell or hair spray
I have had perms before and really liked the results.
It sounds that your hair is a bit short for a perm. But if you want to go ahead. But i have all my hair long. It will take a couple of inches off the length. Mine is permed, and when dry, is about half way down my back. When it is wet, it is almost to my but. So you get the idea of how much length you will need. you might have a long awkward phase. But grow it all out. Then get it permed. It feels good, but is a bit different. So if that is what you want, grow it a bit.
