Since my early teens I've been facinated with long hair, but I was brought up in a strict traditional household and wasn't allowed to grow my hair long. Im now in my late twenties and full of regrets for not doing so especially as my hair is thinning rapidly. I couldnt grow it long now as there is not really enough left. I still really want to have long hair so Ive bought a good human hair wig which does look very realistic. The problem is Ive not had the nerve to go out in public with it I feel too self conscious and everyone will detect it. I dont want to look feminine but like a guy with long hair. Is there anyone else who does or has though of doing this, Id like to know what problems you had in particular any tips you have in concealing that fact its a wig.
hey-go for it-many men have same problem-rock stars, models, etc.- look at maynard keenan of"tool" totally bald-" no problem for him!! he's wearing a totally cool long hair wig (almost to his waist) for now for his "a perfect circle" band. if it looks good, noone will care if its a wig- if you go archive search engine of just this site and enter"wig" in search engine-you'll see how many times this has been discussed just here!! post a picture with you in the wig!! see what people say-
I am now a personal trainer but used to be drummer and open for
many major league heavy metal bands.
Let me tell you....MOST or ALL of the people I knew wore wigs or some
hair system.
I am lucky....I have thick hair that is only receding in one small area but these guys I played with have had MAJOR HAIR problems. The key is tp get a human hair wig and then to get it cut by a pro who knows how to deal with wigs. Another thought...do not get a wig that is too thick. THAT is KISS OF DEATH....looks too fake unless you are like 15 years old. Get a wig that has some thickness in parts and thinness in other parts.
Good Luck,
M
Wigs are more common than you realize. ( I am a wigmaker, myself)My suggestion to ease your mind is to wear the wig out a couple of times in an area where the chances of running into someone you know is slight. Wearing it out the first few times at night is also a good idea. Go to the 24 hour grocery store wearing it. That way, no one is focusing on anyone's appearance as much as they would at a club or party.
Als, try it on in private in front of a trusted friend, and ask for an opinion. They can help you reinforce the fact it looks good, and still poin tout any flaws that you may not be able to detect. Wigs can be tricky. You did good by getting a human hair one, because there is a huge differnce in quality between human and synthetic. You will have to take good care of your wig, or it will start to look fake real quick.
Enjoy and be comfortable with the versatility.
I think guys wearing long wigs is sexy!!!!
Remember when u buy a wig....if u take it out of a box....
to make it look more realistic... have it cut/styled/layered
by a professional to make it look MUCH MORE realiatic!!!

Firstly thanks to those who have contributed so far I did as you suggested and found plenty of items on this discussion board about men who wear wigs. Its given me the encouragement to try a shopping trip in my favourite wig tomorrow just a short one Ill let you know how it goes, Im nervous already.
Secondly thanks Kelly, I wish I knew how to find more women like you. Ive tried a few personals with no success. I'm looking a new understanding female friend to help me with shaping and styling, for lots of encouragement (I need it), and to accompany me out and about (I would feel much more comfortable confiding to a female) and of course a bit of styling fun. I've just found the personals board on this site so I posted a message there.
A question for the men who wear long wigs has any female found out about it and how did they react? Or have you heard women gossiping about men who wear long wigs what were they saying? I can imagine how most men would react but are women more sympathetic? More interestingly - has any women asked you about your hair - thinking it was your real hair?
Hi,
I also wear a wig, but am too nervous to wear it out. I have a over 5ft long wig, Renee of Paris and love the look, though I have shown it only to my wig sylist who love it. It looks very real. She encourages me to wear it out, which I did once, but only in my car. I still need to find a friend who can encourage me to wear it out.
After reading some old articles on this, I bought a long wig on line from wigs.com. Its 44" long, looks hot and feels good, but I am also nervous about wearing it out, but I do wear it around the house and yard. I'm thinking about buying a shorter one (shoulder length) with long bangs (which I love).
I've been growing out my hair for about 8 months and it is just over my ears but thinning a little in the back. I'm going to keep growing it, but I want the lonnger look and feel now.
