My hair is down to the bottom of my back and I usually have it in a braided ponytail. I play football for my high school and need a style that I can wear under my helmet.
CORNROWS or multiple braids?
unbraid your hair, comb it out, pull a close fitting tee shirt OVER the hair... put equipment & uniform on over the tee shirt- be sure to move head around to loosen back hair so head movement isn't hampered. don't leave braids or tails out for people to grab onto.
Not happening, man. You *will not* be able to fit, safely, all of your hair *under* your helmet. I will also make you a worse football player.
It's not safe because:
I'm an ex-lineman - All State in a football state - and I used to love playing against longhairs. They always had hair in thier face, and if they had any locks coming out the back of the helmet in any way, I would pull it, rip it out, chew it up, bury it in the ground, and spit on it. (not that I wouldn't do that to all opponents, regardless of hair length) :) Also, too much hair under the helmet decreases the ability of the helmet to protect your brain and spine. People have died on the football field.
It will decrease your football playing ability because:
It's heavy. You're already wearing 20-40 pounds of equipment. It will get in your face and impair your vision. You'll have to constantly be thinking about it, decreasing reaction time and concentration.
Don't even go through full-pads practice unless you're willing to cut it off. If I haven't convinced you, *please consult your potential coaches and a doctor.*

*It* will also make you a worse football player.

Are you actually saying long hair will make you a worse football player????? I played 3 years of varsity football at De La Salle high school in Concord CA, maybe you've heard of it. From there I went to Cal and started at Middle Linebacker Junior and senior years, and I lead the team in solo tackles both years, and................
I had...................
long hair.
Now my knees are shot, ankles are crap, hip hurts from time to time, but...I still have my hair.
To the first guy- wear a tight braid, and run it in your jersey, and underneath your shoulder pads. Works fine. If you wear a neckroll, nobody will ever even *see* your hair, let alone pull it like that big dumb lineman ;)
