Hi, it's been a little while since I posted here...Well, I started growing my hair out in the beginning of June..it's just starting to get a little length on top(about 2 1/2") and the back about 3" long..However, my hair is curly and somewhat wavy...I Use gel on it to help keep it controlled. Just recently, I've started washing my hair only twice a Week...since, it tends to be on the dry side...However, I condition it everyday while I'm in the shower...Anyway, my question is mainly for other Curly haired guys...Thru this growing process, I've kept my sides short. I want to know what I should do about the sides??? Would it be a good idea to let the top grow long enough to fall down over the sides??? Or to grow the sides out seperately from the top??? I'm trying to achieve the least amount of layers...Any advice would be appeciated..:)
Thanks,
Marc
My advice is to forget your worries about your sides and just let them grow. You don't want to end up with a mullet and your better off dealing with the problem now then postponing it till further down the track. I also have wavy hair and when its at the 2" stage my sides basically do whatever they want to do regardless of how much mousse or gel I used. I basically went through 16 months of bad-hair hell until my sides got long enough to tie back.
So get on first name basis with your good friend 'Mousse' and just count the months off until it is long enough to tie back.

Hey Gordo, with your experience using Mousse, do you feel it's better than using Gel for Curly/Wavy hair????

I found gel worked better in plastering my hair to my head and completely stopping it from even poking its stray strands out but it made me look like Eddie Munster. I prefer mousse because it isn't as icky to put on your hair with your hands and generally easier to deal with. I have found though that not all mousses are the same, some I found held my hair in place for about 3 hrs but the first time I touched it or a breath of air distrubed it, then my hair would go AWOL.
Other mousse I have found did just a good job at holding my hair in place as what the gel did, the good thing though is that when the mousse dried it didn't make my hair look like it had been slicked back but more natural looking. Sometimes there is a slight slickening effect but nowhere near as bad as the look I got with gel.
Hope that helps,
Gordo
