I was flipping through some of my high school yearbooks from about 5 years ago the other day. One thing I noticed was that LOTS of the men in my school had long hair! Then, around 1997, everyone's hair began to get shorter. By early 1999, almost everyone (minus a few), including myself, had short hair. But lately I've seen a lot of men with long hair! Do you think it's going to be in style again soon? Either way I don't care too much, but I was mostly wondering how long many of you think the "cycles" last. What I mean is, how many years do you believe normally passes before long hair for men becomes "cool" again. I KNOW it was "cool" around 1993-1995 because a great deal of people loved the grunge look so much. Oh well, I'm just wondering what everyones take on this is...
Hi
Where I live (Belgium) I can only see that long hair on men
is not coming back at this time ! The shorter the better seems
to be the issue here. I think that in the last past year I have
noticed about a dozen of longhaired guys made the transistion to
short. I sincerely hope that longhair on men is going to make
a come-back , but it doesn't look that way here.
Anyway , my quote still remains the same : the longer the better !

Long never died to me!!
Seems like everyone today has short hair!
Long hair the best!!!
HERE IN NEW YOUR THE TREND SEEMS TO BE COMING BACK STRONG. IT NEVER WENT AWAY COMPLETELY. SOME DAYS I SEE LOTS OHTERS NONE BUR IVER ALL I AM SEEING MORE/ LONG LIVE LONG HAIR. THE LONGER THE BETTER
From what I see here in San Francisco, I'd agree with the first guy's comment above - that long hair is now on its way back. Several of us have commented on what we've seen in hair length here in SF, and it appears 1998 was the low point. Buzzed-to-bald (i.e. "skinhead") looks are much rarer now, with short haired men opting for hair that is long enough to conceal the scalp far more often than not. And longer locks and stubby just-getting-started pony tails are cropping out all over. At the 1999 Folsom Fair in September we noticed a huge increase in longhairs over what we saw in 1998. And since then, I have been seeing more and more of "our kind"!

I would speculate that by the middle of this decade Long Hair will be in fashion for Men again.
I personally feel that the "buzzed off" look has worn out it's welcome and it is time for a change!
Whether these Longer styles will be longer than shoulder length remains to be seen. I would at the very least expect chin length or longer on the average Teen or adult male within three to five years.
That could be useful. I've been too busy to go to the barber for a
few months and my hair was bugging me. So I tied it back out of the way and my wife *loves* it. She wants me to grow it longer so I guess I could be about to get my first ponytail! (The current one is only about two inches long!!)

Hi,
here in Germany i see it everyday. There are more and more Men wearing the hair long. It started so a few years ago.
That is refreshing to hear!
It seems that many trends originate in Europe.
Hopefully Americans will start to view Long Hair as "hip" again, since they often are influenced by European fashion and music!
I was looking through a Sears catalog I got in the mail a few days ago and noticed that most of the male models had a "growing out" look, like I have right now (5 months so far). Yesterday at my friend's birthday party I got some attention for having longer hair, and it wasnt as negative as it would have been last year. Unfortunately, one of the other guys at the party who had chin length hair before had chopped his off. I noticed on vacation last month, also, that more guys were sporting this growing out look. I think a trend here on the East Coast is beginning to develop, and I have a head start. The buzzed hair has become so overused and worn out, it's starting to go! I'll see if anyone elseis starting to grow their hair out once school starts.

Here in Montréal, Canada it seem that there is a come back to that trend - yeah!...
Every day I see many men wearing proudly their hair long. Most are attached in pony tail and some are awesome. The other day I saw a men in his thirties that had the most beautiful long blond ponytail that was down below his waist - what a sight. I can't wait to have mine that long. Actually my tail is over 13 inches long (all the same length) and I am so proud of it.
Don't desesper, this trend is making a solid come back.
Yours
Jean
