Are there any of you men out there who use hair ornaments or devices to control the hair. In public I mean.
I have used bobby pins, barrettes, clips, bear clamps, expandable combs, regular combs, etc. at one time or another. Using discretion I get few hassles.
Comments please.

The least conspicuous headband I have found is
Cosmopolitan #90049
Plastic coated wire about the size of coathanger wire.
Pkg of 2. Black and brown.
$3
Look at May's Drug, if you have one near you.

Beyond ponytail holders, I found a standard, tortise shell hair comb to be really useful growing out bangs - just keeps it out of the way. Do not really recall comments positive or negative, but then I view such things as a way of getting from point a to point b instead of an "ornament".
afro-american males have started a lot of fashion and style fads with us white males. the curly/permed afro of the 70's is a prime example. lately they seems to have dumped the bald look for the swirling, braided/cornrow look. today i was stuck behind a school bus dropping off middleschool students in a poor neighborhood. several of the young males sported eloborately braided do's. one of the young men had two brightly colored barretts in his do.
is this the look of our future, braids and barrets?

A lady friend gave me two small dragonfly beret type clips for Christmas but I've not had the guts to try one yet. Keep thinking maybe to clip it on when I have my hair braided.
A lady at work who loves to braid my hair keeps adding things she happens to have in her purse...they're definately feminine, but I leave them in 'cause everyone knows she put the there and that I'm just being nice to her by wearing them.
I've many pony tail ties, long strips of leather with various beads and things attached. Easy to get findings at craft fairs or bead shops and create things. Wore them a lot when my hair was growing out. Now that its down to my butt they seem to get lost in the tail.
Have thought about taking them to work and asking the lady to braid them in. Thought just a long piece of leather would look nice braided in to a braid.
Hey, there was a day guys didn't wear ear rings...look at us now!
I've worn most of those things. I like wearing them FOR decoration, not just to control the hair. One of my favorite styles is a pony band with two smaller butterfly clips placed just above it ( at 10 and 2 ).

REGRETS
A year ago I was on a Black Sea cruise that stopped for a day in Sebastopol, USSE (or Uncraine) and visited the house where the Yalta agreement was signed. In the craft shop they had some simple hair clips with cut amber on them, and I dickered about price thinking I would find other items like that. Never did. Regreted.
I do not want anything "cheap" looking in my hair. But I would like to have some simple bobby pins made out of silver or gold, or pins with a semi-prescious stone. Understated.
