In researching various homeopathic treatments for cancer, I encountered an alternative method for hair care that has worked wonderfully for me (and saved me lots of money as well).
I know it may sound a bit strange, but one of the most mild cleansers you can find is Borax. Borax is a mineral salt that is slightly basic. By creating a solution (roughly 1/4 cup dissolved in 1 quart of warm water) you can wash your hair, without stripping it of the oils essential to healthy hair and scalp.
The book I was reading suggested using a solution of citric acid (1/4 tsp. to 2 cups of water) as a rinse. This reinstates the slightly acidic nature of the scalp, and helps make your hair extra shiny.
Several of my friends have started using this method and have been very happy with the results (as am I). Also, if you were using one of the more expensive "natural" shampoo brands like I was, you will notice a huge savings when you start using the Borax solution.
As an added bonus, the Borax solution can be used all over your body, in lieu of soap.
Please e-mail me if you try, and let me know what you think about it.
(P.S.) If the Borax solution still has solid Borax in it, turn the container (I use a squeeze type condiment dispenser) upside down until the solids settle near the spout, then open it to get rid of them. The grains of Borax are harmless, but can be somewhat unattractive if left in the hair.
